ordering 996 key from ebay? how much to program?

Hi guys,

I need a spare key for my car and was looking at ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

Does this work for my car? It's a 2 button key. My car is a 1999 996 C2 and it came with only 1 button. The 2nd button is for trunk release and I was wondering if i can use it. It will be nice to be able to open the trunk without opening the driver's door first.

Also, how much does it cost to program the key at the dealer and buy the insert? I wonder if i will have any trouble getting it programmed because I bought the key off ebay.

Thanks

dac

Not sure if it will work or not, I know it will not work for your trunk release, all 99's and 00's have manual release trunks.

I think you should just buy both parts from one of the online dealer like sunset porsche. Think their price was the same as what the ebay one was going for and they will be able to cut the key part for you if you give them your vin number. I ordered the key and the remote from them for about 160 (996 TT). The dealer will probably want at least 1/2 hour of labor to program the key. It takes them a couple of minutes but they have to hook the car up to the computer to program the key.

This is where I normally order parts. I got my remote and blank cut from this place. Was about 160 for both. You will need to fax them your drivers license and registration before they cut the key for you. Their prices are usually very good.
