I just noticed my 996 clutch makes a "creaking" noise when the clutch pedal is depressed and released. The gears seem to engage properly...

The sound comes from the clutch area of engine compartment and is quite noticible

Any thoughts as to what this could be? The 2002 car only has 25,000 km on it

I believe its a universal problem. I even had it on my Boxster S and also have it on my '03 Cab. Next trip to dealer, I'll have them try to fix it. To my knowledge, no permanent fix is around.
Anyone add to this?

 

There is a spring within the release bearing that is causing this. It can be "lubed" or replaced. This is a common problem...had this on both of my Pcars. Both replaced under warranty.

I got the same creaking noise, took it to the dealer. It was a clutch fork, replaced it. Glad it was under warranty.

 

what exactly is a clutch fork?

 

I just got a clutch squeak too on a 2002 c2 with 62,500 miles. But, my squeak is from the pedal area. I haven't been able to find out exactly what needs lubricating though. Is there a common area that needs lubing for this?
