New 996 Exhaust

A good friend of mine has a custom exhaust business (M&K Specialties, LLC) and up until now, only focused on pre-1999 Porsches. He's developed quite a "cult" following in the air-cooled world and turns out some fantastically light and mean sounding exhaust for those cars.

Today, I installed the prototype 996 mufflers on my car. It's LIGHT, weighing in at just a tick over 10 pounds a side.

First impressions coming from Fabspeed by pass pipes....this is quiet! It's louder than stock at idle with a bit of a burble...but man, hit about 4K RPMS and it sounds fantastic!!

I should have the finished tips by Friday and will post up some additional pics then.

Will do! It will be tomorrow or Thursday though.

I'll also be doing a dyno test this weekend with these vs. stock vs. Fabspeed Maxflo.

those look nice. they might rust a bit fast if you don't paint them or make them out of SS.

I would love to hear sound clips and eventually how much will they set us back.

thanks for sharing.

Rust isn't an issue, Ben (M&K Specialties) only uses 321 stainless for all of his exhausts. Once the tips are here and I am done beta-testing these, I'll send them out to be fully polished.

I think his price point on these is going to be in the $1K to 1300 range.

Here's a quick crappy 10sec video without any muffler tips and a quick rev to about 4800 RPMS.

Once the tips get back and I get them installed, I'll get some better footage with various driving conditions.

The tips will change the frequency of the exhaust note a bit.

So the car is quiet at idle with aftermarket mufflers and cat-bypass? If so, I need that setup

Sorry for the misunderstanding. This set up is with the factory cats and a M&K Muffler set up.

I meant coming from Fabspeed Bypass pipes (the ones that delete the muffler all together) the system is quite quiet.

From the 10 seconds of vid, it sound really good. Once your done, can you post another vid that's a little bit longer?

I haven't had the opportunity to dyno yet....or even drive the car recently...

I have the new tips and I'll make an effort to get them on and get some video. I have our last track event on October 27, which might be a good time to get some in car and drive by video.

Sharky...thanks for the kudos! That means a lot coming from a guy with your expertise!
