18s to 19s- What is the difference?

Listmates,

I am looking at 19 inch wheels for my 03 996. Other than the One inch (anticipating the fellow smart alecks) what are the differences in ride, performance and whatnot?

The new ones look great, but i don't want to sacrifice performance.

Thanks in advance.

It does depend on what you plan on using. There are some 19" wheels that are very heavy which increases braking distances and reduces acceleration. Heavy wheels can give a dead feel to the suspension. If you plan on using wheels that are lighter than the wheels that are on the car now then the opposite is obviously true. I have had customers over the years tell me that after going to a lighter 19" wheel that the car "feels more up on its toes". You also need to use the correct tire size. The 19" tires do have a shorter sidewall, which does translate into a stiffer ride. A shorter sidewall will give you a quicker turn in response but will not "hook up" as well off of a corner. We do have many options available for wheels. Please call or e-mail if I can help you.

When I went from 18's to a 20 rear/19 front setup, the difference in ride was not as bad as I thought it would be. I guess it just depends on which wheels and tires you chose.

Because it looks good.

I wanted to good aggressive so I did 20's in the rear. However, 20's didn't look right in the front so I did 19's there

It looks like your rear tire is much too small for the wheel on the Supra. How wide is the tire and wheel on the rear?

Yeah, it is a little stretched. But it was the widest I could go without rubbing. The tire is a 295/30-20 the wheel as 11" wide.
