Would it make sense for porsche to built a "hard-er" core GT2, like an RS treatment?

I was wondering, as wonderful and awesome the GT2 is, would it make sense for them to provide a GT2RS version with wider rear track, slight bump in power, 100 or so lbs reduction in weight to go under 3000lb mark and may be few more things?

Or is that really not necessary?

Well its not necessary for Porsche as the GT2 doesn't compete, so it doesn't need any homologation requirements with a street car.

But hell yes that would be a cool car.

The GT2 is already built on the wider 4/4S/RS/TT platform.

I saw pics of a car shown in a gallery some time ago...it was called the GT2 RS ( 996 base model )and was more powerful than the standard one...but I don't remember the hp data...but it was over 330 Km/h fast!
And it had the same GT3 RS decals on both sides...
I don't think it was a factory car...but was seriously incredible!
BTW...Porsche can do whatever wants to...

Who would need more power? Even Walter said in a recent interview that he's scared driving at some points.

Technically, it's the most simple thing in the world - take an existing product, scale it down, remove some luxuries and charge more than the model with all the gizmos. If enough people requested it, you can bet your butt it will pop up as a limited edition.

Imagine doing that in any other industry. "Yes sir, I know this house doesn't have the indoor pool and the italian kitchen like the neighbor does, but this is the hardcore house - without all that junk, it becomes lighter... that's why it's half a mill more."

Well my 996GT2 has 630bhp courtesy of Ruf, has carbon hood, carbon rear wing, carbon engine cover, carbon front bumper, plastic rear windows, KW adjustable suspension and GT3 RSR rear suspension - does that count?

My 997 GT2 will be staying stock......

A GT2 RS would be a KILLER, and it would cost in the mid 300's for rarity and capability.

I'm thinking 2900 lbs, 580 hp and that's it, game over. It would be too scary to drive, though I'd do it anyways

There has never been a GT2 RS. That's not a Porsche factory car, it's just heavily modified and they decided to give it that name. Although, it's still a sick car!
