Can't Fill The Tank
filler-up?
over the past few years, we're experience a much higher complaint rate on this topic.....there is quite a difference between turbo and normally aspirated on the componentry which operate the evap system (allowing fuel into tank).
Just last week, after diagnosis, we needed to remove a fuel tank in a 996 turbo (ugh), in order to replace a valve over the tank that was responsible for preventing fuel going into recepticle. I agree with the trick on turning nozzle upside down for the PITA issue of topping off, as that is one way to skin the cat. Mark

I love this forum.
I have the exact problem and secretly feared that it was a defect in my car that was going to cause some hassle down the line. At least I now know that it's a "feature" and not a problem with my car.
I will try the upside down top-off technique. For some reason, this reminds me of the Tubes "Completion Backwards Principle" (album from early 80s).

I have the same problem with my 996tt. I tried a trick from when had a jetta TDI and it works.
If you look carefully on the where you put the gas in there is a black 'button' on the right. Press down on this and it releases the pressure in the tank. You can then get another couple gallons in the tank.
I don't know if the 997tt has this, but you can always check.

Its because we have crap 91 octane here in California and the car tries to refuse that garbage!
. Jason did you notice a drop in HP when you made your trip over to the SF Bay area? When I add 6-7 gallons of 100 octane unleaded at Infinion raceway to get to the proposed 94 octane that Porsche designed our cars to run on, I sure notice a difference. Its so obvious but not right away, it takes about 10 -15 minutes for the computer to adjust...but thats been discussed many times here. I also have the issue of not being able to top off the tank but I simply hold the pump with 2 hands (one hand keeps it the nozzle in the hole while the other pulls back on the rubber seal allowing gas fumes to escape freely). It works every time.
Anyone else try these rubber flappers? Do they work - ie can the fuel door close with it?
Thanks
Thanks

I've had that flap in my TT for a couple years now. Never had any issues with closing the fuel door cover with it. I just fold it up under the gas cap and it works great. Still highly recommend getting one!
