2008 997TT purchase questions

OK, I have been lurking here for about a year and doing all of the required searching and reading. I have been contemplating making a purchase in the coming weeks and have narrowed things down to 2 cars and I have a few simple but nagging questions in my head. I am not new to sports cars, I have done the F car thing and was not happy, had a FGT, and a z06 which both left me feeling less than pleased for non performance reasons and now I am giving hard thought to a Porsche.

The 2 cars are as follows. The first is a GT3 white locally for and asking of $125k, which I would try to negotiate. The second is a 2008 997TT in white in Ga. for $132k. http://jim-ellis.porschedealer.com/n...ntoryid=351965

My questions are simple:
1. Is white a less than desireable color? I really like the way it shows the lines of the car but I dont want a color that later down the road willl cause resale issues.
2. Other than the obvious induction differences, is the TT worth the extra $$? Is the GT3 a track car and the TT a street car or is that just some puffing by the dealer? Have any of you driven both? My primary use will be pleasure driving to work and weekend rips on the back roads.
3. In looking at the options on the TT above are there things that are must haves that are missing from that particular car?
4. From a Mod standpoint on the TT what would it cost me to jump the HP up another 75-100hp?

Thanks for the time and any input will be appreciated.

White is becoming very popular on both cars, especially the GT3.

Drive them both, but the TT sounds like it is better suited to your mission.

TT is very easily modable. Chip, exhaust and headers very cheap at circa $7.5k.

That car is pretty base. Many here swear by the sports seats, however the base seats are ok, too. Short shifter is nice, but can be added later.

Good luck!

There are a few of members here that are converts from GT3s to turbos. The biggest advantage of the GT3 (handling) can be improved upon with springs and alignment changes, or more dramatically, with coilovers.

With regards to power, the GT3 is probably close to its limit...while the 3.6 on the TT has a lot of extra room. You can probably eek out another 60-80 hp with an exhaust change and ECU flash on pump gas for about $8K. On race fuel..well...just look at Gene.

I would do the TT. Exhaust + ECU + Bilstein coilovers + sway bars (cheap) = 550 hp sport overboost and handling close or equal to the GT3, but with more upside from there on HP and torque. $10K +/-. Short shifter a must and not expensive. I think the lines on the car are best seen in the light colors and most dramatically so in white

Brett (yeah, it's me), tunari13 is correct. I had a Cargraphic exhaust on the GT2, and I liked it. However, as to build quality, I like Europipe more. Some of the other exhausts are just too loud and resonate too much. Alex at Sharkwerks is cool to deal with, and would probably give you some pretty good advice on all aspects of engine, exhaust, ecu upgrade, and suspension. Personally, since are probably not going to track it, I would wait on suspension (although others on the board insist that suspension comes first).

I heard some negative things about having a short shifter installed on the turbo. That it may decrease clutch life. Can someone shine some light?

White used to be an undesirable color for a 911. But right now it's an "it" color -- very much in demand and looks very cool. Porsche used white as the GT3 color it used for launching the car.

Lots of opinions about options but some of the most common are sport chrono (the closest to a must have there is), limited slip differential (with a 6 speed), adaptive sports seats, heated seats (though maybe not in FL), and short shifter (can be added later). Lots of people are passionate about their ceramic brakes. And then as much or little extra leather, CF, aluminum, wood or other interior touches to your taste.

What did you not like about the F car, Zo6, and FGT? Might give us some more insight on which would be better for you.

I have both and love both.

GT3 is 75% track 25% street

TT is 75% street and 25% track

What is important to you? Do you want a track car you can drive on the street or a street car that you can drive on the track. The TT is more fun to drive on the street.

Mine has GIAC, Fabspeed and PSS10's and it is a lot of fun!

I agree with the above comments on track versus road. I wanted to comment on white. Over the past several years white has been rather rare but I was at the Porsche Factory in Stuttgart two months ago and they said it is the "in" color now. I have a MY 997TT on order for a February build - white, black leather interior, short shifter, ceramic brakes, LSD, sport chrono, adaptive heated seats, and more. I can't wait! It will be my THIRD WHITE PORSCHE! I always get stopped and compliments how good they look in white. Go for it - you will LOVE the car.

hey garrett, not sure if you have them but add some beefier sway bars to that TT. Really helps.

Thanks for all of the replys.... I have been on hold for a few reasons. First the GT3 sold, which didnt really matter because I have decided to go with the TT. More importantly I have been hung up over price. I spoke with a buddy of mine that owns another car dealership and he told me to nix the deal because he though they should be discounting the car. He said the markup is a hair over $17k on this particular car and I need to just sit tight. I am now considering buying a 07 lightly used or a modded GT2. I must say though, if the dealer would just knock some $$ off the price I would stroke the check. Am I being unrealistic? Should I just look to another dealer? Any recs on what dealer I should be talking to??

Brett

I would assume that if you were buying an 07TT now, before year end, they should discount it some...do a dealer search on the porcheusa.com and check their inventory to see what 07's are still laying around on dealer lots...
