Brembo Big Brake question

This has been discussed to death, but I haven't seen anything about the following: How much longer do the Brembo Big brake system (monoblock 6 piston 380mm) last as compared to the Big Reds that come stock? Price difference?

Also, although in a different league, how much longer do the GTRs last as compared to the Big Reds...I think these cost like 15K now? Correct?

Thanks a lot
George

Well considering you see almost no fade with the 6 piston mono blocks, absolutely zero fade with the GTR's and almost immediate (ok not immediate, but you get the point) fade with the big reds, i'd say they last A LOT longer.

You can get a set of mono block fronts for $3500 and i think the GTR's run about 10-12k.

I run the monoblocks on my car and there is an instant notice in the improvement with braking. Even the pads that come with the kit are much better. you do have the option when you buy them to get a more aggressive race pad as well. If you dont want to spend the dough for all 4 wheels, get the front 6piston monoblock and then just upgrade your rear lines and pads and you will be good.

Keep in mind he's talking about a 997TT with stock 6-piston brakes. I assume you've upgraded the 996TT 4-piston calipers to 6-piston Brembos (just like I've done, nice brakes for track work but not THAT essential )

Btw. is there a difference with monoblock Brembos you've got and the 6-piston Brembos which are found standard in 996GT2/GT3/997TT...?

GewoW, I would first get racing fluid and racing pads for the stock system, drive a couple of track days and see is there a real need for better brakes...maybe, maybe not

I am aware the stock is 6piston, but i jumped the gun on my words. My experience does not pertain to the the 997TT like you suggest because the difference in the 996 4pot to Brembo 6pot is huge. I would at least assume also that because of the stiffer monoblock construction, improved brake pads, steel braided lines, better venting and lighter 2piece rotors there should still be a difference? Anybody done the upgrade?

Opps i did too. It was unclear which big reds he was talking about so i assumed the 4 piston big reds. With that, i believe Stephen at AI (PorschePHd) has done the upgrade from the 997 big reds to the 6 piston monoblock brembos with 380mm rotors.

GewoW is infamous around these parts
as there's obviously a diff between the 4piston 996 and the 6 piston brembos, is there still a big diff between the 6 piston big reds of the 997 and the brembos?

Also, I heard that changing pads for the GTRs is very simple, how is that?

monoblock design, 2 piece vented rotor (weight savings), steel braided lines, more aggressive pads. I think that should be the differences. Stephen???

opt for slotted rotors if this is for the track
