New Pulseplugs for the 997TT?

I'm usually skeptical about products that supposedly work better than the stock components. Can anyone think of the "Tornado" intake, etc. But I keep seeing this in current car magazines and thought I'd check it out:

What do you think? They're $25 each which seems awfully expensive for sparkplugs! Should I get some and install them in my 997TT? I'm not sure how hard it is to get to the sparkplugs.

For all the mods you put into your car, $25each is nothing! Do it for all of us, and see how you like it...

Jason I would test these out on another vehicle first to see if what they claim is true? Sounds to good to be true to me but if I were to try these out I would buy 8 and install them on my Chevy Silverado 5.3 V8 Vortec engine first. I really would have to notice a difference vs stock. Funny, not much is discussed with regards to modifying the Turbos ingition system compared to exhaust/computer flashing/ suspension, etc. A powerful spark was a big deal when we use to pump up hot rods in the 70's. I think the turbo has specific parameters to meet in that department that should not be messed with but I am no expert at this. Getting to these plugs must not be easy either without the proper tools. Then again I have no experience in that department. Someone once told me (not sure if its true) that on the earlier Turbos you had to drop the engine to change the plugs? What a pain in the **** that would be! Anyone else?

I wouldn't risk it .. the ecu is a very complicated unit, any significant changes (without a proper flash to adapt it) would probably lead to undesirable effects.

SAAB introduced something similar 10 years ago, but their system was designed to work only if engine wouldn't start of first turn of the ignition key (i.e. in cold weather - Scandinavian winters) On the 2nd "crank" ignition system would increase V-oltage 2 fold and spark plug will burst 8 sparks instead of one. Once engine (yes, their engines are turbo-ed) fires up, the whole system is back to standard operation - Voltage and 1 spark . On top of this SAAB system/spark plugs, are kind of lambda sensor , measuring level of ionization inside cylinder - after combustion , and by this additionally adjusting timing and fuel/air ratio.

Jason,

I am sure it is garbage and also be careful they are not cold plugs for Turbo's Superchargers etc. They claim to increase compression which is not what you are looking for in the Turbo.

A curious mind still exists as it does for many. It is being the guinea pig that scares me

Jason;

I think i understand how these devices work. The concept is valid, but perhaps would only make a difference on older non-electronic ignition systems. Most modern ignition systems, in essence, perform a similar function by allowing the charge to build stronger and then suddenly release the charge instead of allowing the plug to fire when it has simply overcome the air gap resistance under load. On motorcycles many people switch to the Nology coils and spark plug leads (they are made for your BMW) to accomplish exactly what these pulse plugs purport to do. I don't know how our TT's ignition coils are triggered, but almost any modern automobile, especially high end ones, have something in their system that controls the energy build-up beofre firing the spark plug.

Try 'em in your bike first - only 2 of them and easy to get to

Dick

Very funny, Dick. My bike has 4 cylinders not 2.

I don't think I'm going to try it after all. I wasn't even considering it. I was hoping to be convinced by you guys that I should try it but you guys did the opposite (but I knew you'd all do that anyways.

Thanks again guys...another to add to the "Tornado" batch.
