The low engine oil light came on about at 3200 miles on my 997TT, it is about a quart low, dealer said it might consume up to 1 quart every 600 miles, so mine is pretty normal, right ?

Common, yes, but normal I don't know. My TT uses a qt every 1800 miles like clockwork, no drops/no smoke/broke in by the book. My old c4s used about a qt every 800 miles. I think it has a lot to do with the flat 6 design and pooling in the cylindrrs after a hard run, who knows.

My E63 AMG requires a qt every 1000 miles and dealer said it is normal, but my Cayenne S requires nearly no additional engine oil between services (10000 miles) !

7800 miles on my 13 month old 997TT (just did 2nd oil change). i run about a quart every 2000 miles. when i hit the 2nd 2000 miles, i know it's time for an oil change. my 993TT was about the same.

I keep a quart of oil in my front trunk using a $7 dollar oil case from BMW. This is actually from Larry's trunk but I have the same thing in mine. I like the BMW case because it has velcro on the back so the case stays in place.

I find that I have to add oil periodically but I still haven't completely emptied one quart in 14,000 miles of driving.

Yea becuase the Cayenne Has a V-8....

I added 1 qt. at the 1st 800 miles. I have 2,400 miles on it now and its still FULL. Might need to top off in about ~600 miles.

No usage in first 800 miles - I had dealer change oil at that time and it was overfilled slightly - I siphoned out about 400ml to get it to the right level and haven't used any over the next 2,000 miles.

I wouldn't worry about it...

I've gone thru about 2.5-3 quarts in 4000 miles. Finding mostly that the oil consumption has to do with how I drive the car... After a few long, spirited driving sessions or a day of track time, I notice I lose a "tick" on the meter at most. I top off periodically, and usually do not let the meter drop below 2 ticks.

Interestingly, our Cayenne S sees more stop and go driving, road trips, etc and never seems to lose any oil (ODO at 26K miles, maybe jsut b/c is well broken in?).

Buy a case of Mobile 1 0W-40 for the garage and it will prob last you years.

as per the manual 1 ltr per 1500 km.
I found out that the 996tts were right on that while the 997tt is consuming oil less frequently, abt 1 ltr per 2000-2300 kms

It's becuase the Cayeene is a V-8....V-8's dont burn oil like FLAT 6's do. It burns the most oil on start up because oil gets in to the top end. The top end of a V-8 is very far from the Oil Pan/Dry Sump(whatever its called)...But the Flat 6 is hardly even higher than were the oil sits. Causing some oil to get in the cylinder.

I tried to explain it to my best knowledge.

If you let the oil light come on you are not paying close enough attention to the oil level. The car will use oil so check often.

996TT is 1 qt in 800mi or so....no big deal...has just gone up to 1200mi...probably going back down. I don't worry. It is what these cars do. Nothing to lose sleep over. Amazing engine. Just amazing.
