anyone here have the AWE muffler deletes?
Even though they are not supposed to throw a CEL, has anyone encountered one? Do these give any power gains? I know they spool the turbos up faster but wondering if there was any gain behind that. Thanks.
Nico,
Have you heard the muffler delete system? It's gonna be pretty loud. Your neighbors might not like you.
I have the AWE system with the mufflers and tips and I love the power gain and sound. It's not too loud at low RPM's, but it screams at the top of the rev limit.

. used to have a viper with no mufflers and headers back in the day. if they can take that, then i think they can take anything
im curious to hear the muffler deletes in person but im guessing no one has em. i might just go with the full awe exhaust system then. thanks for the heads up!
muffler delete
Just installed it on my 07 TT, 6 speed. Took about 50 lbs off car, basically removed the entire exhaust downstream of turbo and replaced it with the bypass. Sounds mean. You have to have the taste for it. My mechanic actually called me up from the shop and wanted to make sure I liked it loud before I decided to keep it on. IMHO, it makes the car sound like it should. Its hard to tell if it really gains any appreciable power, maybe a few HP, but it sure sounds faster...lol. And for comparison, I have an 04 SRT Viper as well with headers, no cats or resonators, and a Heffner cat back w/ bullit mufflers. It is louder than the Porsche no doubt, but I would guess the Porsche is about 80% as loud, which is definitely more noticeable since it sounded like a Toyota stock. Put it this way, my wife can now hear me coming home from about a mile away when she didnt even notice before. Not appreciated by neighbors,.....but who needs them anyways.
Nico-
Remember that your turbochargers act somewhat like a muffler. Turbo cars with dumps will never be as loud as their normally aspirated counterparts.
I am not sure if you have seen this yet, but if you scroll down to the bottom of this page there is a dyno video.

I also want to mention that we have both the deletes and full exhaust systems in stock and ready to ship.
Please let me know if you need further help.

Slightly OT.
Hi Mike,
I would like to change my Turbo exhaust and am strongly considering AWE. It has come very highly recommended by a lot of people. I notice that part of the AWE exhaust protrudes below the bumper. Doesn't really bother me, but I am curious: Why is this part of AWE's exhaust seemingly bigger than competitors'? If so there must be reasons for its size and square shape? Is it responsible for the low rumbling character that I love about AWE?
Thanks in advance.

Can

Actually it is not really the shape of the can that dictates the tone. It's a combination of a few things.
1. The amount of packing material used.
2. Type of packing material used.
3. Size of holes in the perforated tubing inside the muffler.
4. Amount of holes in the perforated tubing.
We also went with the square design because it fit the shape of the OEM strap used on the stock exhaust. We wanted to maintain a tight fit. That is critical in helping eliminate any harmonic transmitted to the bracket which would then make it's way into the passenger compartment.
That is just part of the reason why our systems have less interior noise then our competitors.
I hope this helps with your decision.
Mike,
Thanks for the detailed reply. I did some "intensive" reading of old posts and now know more about your company's outstanding reputation. Congrats. And what glowing report of your work place! I wish you were near Southern Cal. so I could come to visit.
The Turbo stock exhaust has that continuous vacuum cleaner character (as opposed to the lump thump thump of my NA 997) that bothers me greatly. What I am looking for is an exhaust note with more low frequency rumbling, and louder than stock but not too loud. I hope AWE will be the answer.
What percentage of your customers have had problem with droning? This is what I worry about most--droning at 2000-3000 rpm. I vaguely recall someone stating all after-market exhausts have some droning issue, just a matter of how loud. I hope this is not true?
I look under the bumper of my Turbo last night and sure enough the stock exhaust is also square under the bumper. So AWE exhaust is exactly same size and shape as stock at the point where the bracket is? One would think a cylindrical shape imparts more strength? Or is strength important at all for this part of the exhaust?
The modular design: Any problem with leaking?
Thanks again. I am going to have a listen to one of your customer's system soon. If it sounds like your web site's video clip, I am sold.

There is no droning. That was my biggest concern too. The sound level is just right. There are no leaks either. Great workmanship. Come down to C&C Saturday and you could listen to mine.
Oh no, you are at C & C tomorrow too? Someone else with a Cargraphic exhaust is going to be there also. Too bad I am on call tomorrow and it's too late to switch out now!
I am arranging to visit Bill (Turbobill) to listen to his AWE system. But would love to listen to your car too. Is C&C a weekly event and how often do you go there?
TIA.

Doug,
Thanks. Leaning towards AWE but I plan to listen to AWE and Tubi before deciding. Hopefully I will find a "sample" in LA.
