Tire Noise
Tire Noise
My 08 came with PS2s and they seem to be pretty noisy. Any suggestions on quieter tires but without loss of traction. I don't care about how fast they wear.
Yea the yare noisy on the highway but its the best you can get!

What's wrong with PZeros? I've heard from a local guy with a GT3 that he preferred the PZeros over the PS2. Had the same handling characteristics as the PS2 but quieter, he said. I'm on my second set of PS2 tires now but was planning to try the PZeros next.

I didn't really have to change my front tires at the time (13,000) nor my rear tires but there was only about 2,000 miles of tread life on the rears left. It's generally a good idea to swap all four when 2 has to be replaced.
I just changed the rear PS2's at 8500 miles. I run them at the partial load setting about 39r 33f. I currently have Pirelli 240 Sottozero winter tires on the car now. I have never had very good luck with Pirelli tires since by 1963 Alfa Guillietta Spyder when they were very good. The 240 Sottozero's are the only winter tire readily available in 19 in. As for the PS2,s I think they are the best tire available for the tt.
Jim at tirerack says with these P2s on 997 turbos, fronts last twice the distance of the rears. I have 14K on the rears and noticed some back-end sliding on quick acceleration out of sharp turns. Tread wear on rear is 1/2 the fronts. Tread wear on my fronts about what they were when new. Just put two rear tires on rear... so next tire-purchase, both fronts and rears will have about the same tread depth when the turbo reaches another 14K mile marker again. Big difference in price, rears $510 and fronts $300 from tirerack.
Nothing wrong with the P-Zeros. I've had both on my 996tt and actually prefer the P-Zeros. I have them on my 997tt now.
P zeros are noisy as hell in no time, <2000 miles. Bridgestones have been very quiet for me, a pleasant surprise coming from p zeros. Traction is very good, both on/off rthe track. But I have a track tire setup, so that's no longer an issue. As far as changing all 4 at once, nice but completely unneccessary on an awd car with 90-10 rear to front bias, unless you like throwing your money in the garbage along with your perfectly good fronts
I'm at the 8200 mile mark with the Bridgestones and am impressed with how well they are holding up compared to the PS2's on my 997S. I didn't expect these tires (almost 1/2 the price of the PS2s) to compare so well? My next set will be PS2's so I'll have a better idea comparing the 2 with an AWD car down the road. The PS2's are the way to go though, especially if you take the car on the track.
