Overprotective with the 997tt?

How overprotective with the car are some of you guys?
For instance today I chose NOT to drive my car because I went to a place where valet parking is the only option . I also considered Friday commuter traffic and opted to leave the car home . The idea of going to a supermarket is competely out with this car . I read a post of a guy placing cake in his rear fold seat --for me --no food in my car --ever.

I wasn't this protective with my 997S . I wasn't even this pampering when the car was stock . After I modded it I saw the enormous amount of work and care that went into making this car the way it is .

On a beautiful Sunday --I'll drive it . If I am free on weekday afternoon when congestion is less , I'll drive it as a special treat. In fact I prefer daylight driving with the car .

Anyone else like this ? If so what lengths have you gone to avoid a ding or scratch ?

As well if anyone drives the car as a "beater" please chime in . How can you face leaving the car at the movies and still enjoy the film knowing the car is sitting in parking lot ?

Because it's just a car, it's not a rare car that can never be replaced. There is a HUGE difference between a car that costs a lot and a car you can't get,or for that matter you can't repair properly. Yes I drive my original 71 hemicuda with great care, but a modern pcar, ferrari, merc, lambo ?? I buy them to enjoy them, not worry about them...

My car is meant to be driven. Wisconsin winter? No problem. Road salt and sand? No problem. Clear bra, snow tires, and you're pretty invincible.

Parking...that's another issue. I hate door dings. I mean...I really hate them. I won't park anywhere that I can't control the situation. No valet. Will not park on another left side (US - left side drive.) I will only park at the end of the row. I've scouted out restaurants before eating there to check out the parking situation.

I guess...when I'm driving...I'm in control. I guess I don't want to leave my car in any situation I can't control.

Paranoid...heh.

I hate valet parking with a passion. I don't valet park ANYTHING... I've seen too much to ever let those idiots touch any of my cars. If valet is the only option, I don't go to that place.

I hear you yrralis1. Sometimes I share the same thoughts. The answer you'll often get is "it can be replaced, it's just a car", and that is absolutely true at the end of the day.

But it's not so much about if the car can be replaced... that's easy. I dont know about you guys, but im not going to replace the car if I get a nasty door ding. Im just going to have to suck it up and drive around like that until I sell the car, and it's always going to bother me. It's not about replacing the car, it's about living with it until you replace the car.

Sure you could get the minor damage repaired, but there's nothing like factory paint. Maybe you guys can share a different perspective on this.

Btw, I know I dont have a 997TT, but 997TT or 996TTS, either way I'd feel the same.

I drive it whenever/wherever and try not to sweat it. I have almost 15K miles on it after 12 months. I drive to grocery store, movies, restaurants, hotels, etc. When valet parking, I let them drive it but usually slip them $20 and ask them to take care of it. They usually get the message.

Am I taking a risk of scratches / dings / abuse? I guess so, but the alternative is not getting to enjoy this great car. For me the choice is easy.

-Chris

Agreed, Bobby. I'll drive it, use it as my daily. It's a car, it's meant to be driven, and I enjoy getting into my car each and every day. If something happens along the way, it was meant to be.

Leaving the car in a parking lot is a completely different story though

End of day, it's just a car, built to drive and enjoy! If you stress too hard, it kinda takes all the joy of having such an awesome car away! + anything can be fixed/repaired! I take precaution's, but don't sweat everything!

It's your car, your money you spent on a car that means something to you. I never valet, and always park away or on ends. I hate door dings. /its normal behavior if you have acar you care about.

I drive my car when I want but it never goes shopping or to a parking lot alone normally.

I visit friends and relatives with it and will go to botique stores where there is parking dedicated to the store and I can see the car from inside the store.

I wouldnt feel right leaving a red porsche alone for fear of vandalism, keys or door dents.

Not worth the stress of confronting someone who knowingly damaged this car out of jealousy.

I respect this car and want to keep it in pristine condition but do drive it when I want to,, regardless of weather.

Don

I drive mine every damn day...but hate dings with a passion. Had a couple popped out already, really can't tell. Bottom line, I'm going to enjoy this car and it's depreciation, not save it for the next guy.

Great minds think alike! I drive mine every chance I get. Grocery store, mall, restaurant, Costco runs (I cram stuff into every nook and cranny), pick up the kids from school.....everywhere! Right now I have a 50lb sack of weed killer/fertilizer in the front trunk.

I try to drive my 996tt every chance I get too..... I will usually check the weather before hand, because its definitely not as fun to drive in the rain. Same deal with the parking lots too....... miles away from everyone, and corners only and half the car is always on the hatch marks if it can be.
