Anyone take his 997tt on vacation?
This thread about Auto Transport got me thinking . https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...d.php?t=122641
I have always missed my car when I went on vacation and I don't even trvel often BUT if I did the idea of taking my car sounds interesting . Part of me would be on eggshells about any damage but the flip side has me cruising on an amazing road in aplace where I may never imagine driving.
The cost of transport seems less than a high end rental .
So has anyone done this? If so --how was it?

We should talk...I've taken my TT on several car trips over the past year and I've _always_ had fun with the TT. She's a great long distance traveler especially when the going gets twisty. I have full hood/fender coverage on mine so I don't worry about chips but however because the windshield is so soft, I get my fair share of rock chips but no cracks yet.
Here's my TT on a desolate highway somewhere in Northern California. I hit triple digits on this unnamed road.

Driving nirvana at its finest

Beautiful scenery

And my favorite twisty road, all 140 miles of it

At Pebble Beach during my break-in trip hence the stock wheels

Amazing Atomic . I guess you don't have to freight your car as this looks close . For me Florida roads are quite flat and it takes hours drive the state placing miles on the car .
Even to go to Rennsport in Daytona was far enough on flat roads that i didn't go.
I have 3800 miles on my car and I suppose the idea of keeping the mileage low and driving those types of roads means subjecting my car to transport creating a tug of war emotionally between potential car shipping damage Vs driving fun .

Larry,
Those roads are in California so it's a fair stretch for me since I'm up here in Washington. I've been there 3 times to date. Always heading there in search for driving nirvana. I go there every year with Larry (HUMMM 3) and always enjoy myself every time. I can't imagine using a transport to take my car somewhere just so I could get my driving fixes. I'd much rather drive there because that is after all part of the experience. Have you considered getting your hood/fenders covered as to help alleviate your fears of damaging your pristine paint. I currently have just over 15,000 miles on my Turbo so that should show you that I'm not afraid of adding mileage. I bought the Turbo for myself not for others to enjoy so therefore I drive her to my heart's content whenever I can. She's definitely a keeper for me.

On thing about the driving fun. For me, it has gone to crap on Florida expressways I10 and I75 (two lane section). The aircraft coppers are out daily on both roads. Just watch for white lines. They have picked me out of heavy traffic twice now in less than 7 months. The first was for 81 mph in a 70. That time I was barely keeping up with traffic. Those points can add up, making driving my porsche less fun. However, their days of catching this tt by air are over. Aside from white lines constant vigilance, I've finally located CB channel truckers use on those roads and have my copper scanner programmed for all counties from Pensacola to the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa.
5-10 years for speeding? Revocation for 10 years? What ever happened to "cruel and unusual punishment?"
I guess I'm not driving to Florida this fall.

I feel your pain. Basically Florida is flatter than **** on a plate, so it's not a very interesting place to drive.
I would recommend shipping your car to a western states Porsche dealer or a friend out west. (I think Atomic80 would loan you a spot in his garage for a few days or I could put it in mine). Then fly out to get your car and take it on a road trip.
This would only make sense if you could afford to take a week or more off. If you were to come out to Washington state, Atomic80 and I could receive your car, pick you up at the airport and set up a scenic itinerary where you could properly exercise your car with minimal interference with the LEO's. When you complete your trip we could supervise the loading of your car on the carrier of your choice. Around here Waggoners (Google them) seems to work well. They shipped both my car and others in the Seattle area to the dealer from the POE in San Diego.
If you were to bring your SO, I could recommend some second honeymoon locations
I and others here on the forum could set up itineraries for you in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Colorado and/or California.
So the only thing holding you back now is making the arrangements.

That's not a bad idea Larry's (HUMMM 3) got there. We could set up a 997TT driving service catering to folks who have that "itch" for finding driving nirvana. There are a fair number of good roads around here but nowhere to the magnitude that those folks down in California have. Both Larry and I peruse a site frequented by motorcycle riders (www.pashnit.com) that is all about that perfect road with reviews, ideas, thoughts, etc. It's an addictive site well worth the small price of entry.

This is such a thoughtful offer . I do go out to California a lot just not recently as i have an elderly parent that's not been well and I really haven't felt confortable leaving my area these days .
I usually go to Southen California (San Diego and Santa Monica) and I agree about how beautiful the roads are but I also know that Northen California has some amazing roads too.
I am not woried about the paint in transit . I don;t drive highways much and I love the look of an unwrapped car (Venture shield /3M etc.) but might do it if I knew my car was either tiptoing onto the track or a long drive.
And yeah I'd go with my girlfriend --no way I would want to see all these beautiful roads and not have her company and those romantic locations Hummm3 (Larry btw my name is Larry too hence the yrral =larry backwards) --bring them on !!!
It truly would be a memorable trip.
Larry, I am sure after all my comments about our weather lately, you can't wait to come to Washington! I'll hook up with you too and we can finally do that dinner date with our spouses!
I took my C4S across the state to Mom's weekend at my son's university for a weekend last year. Talk about brave and scary! It took out half of the bug population of Washington and the kids thought I was about the coolest mom around! Not a scratch either
I let my son drive around campus so he could look cool in front of all his friends. (I did come home with a tatoo though
)

You guys are too funny --planning a vacation that I didn't plan yet and I got to tell ya --it sounds like fun .
I saw a car at the Auto Show which looked like it was tatooed --Imagine tatooing the Lambo .
