Nissan GT-R Superior?
Hey, someone asked sarcastically (I believe you) what was the badge about on that black GT-R. I simply answered with a few facts about the "Automobole Engineer of the Century". Then someone asked what that had to do with AWD, and I explained that Porsche was developing one for sports cars 21 years ago. Don't get your panties all bunched up.
GT-R ACHIEVES UNDER 7:30 AT NURBURGRING
- GT-R among the fastest ever production road cars at the ‘Ring’ -
(CASCAIS, Portugal, 1st May 2008) - Nissan today announced that its GT-R supercar achieved a lap time at the infamous Nurburgring in Germany of seven minutes and 29 seconds. Recorded on April 16 and 17, the GT-R used was a base specification car and fitted with the standard Japanese market tires. Driven by GT-R chief test driver Tochio Suzuki, this latest lap time beats the previous fastest time for the GT-R by nine seconds.
The previous best lap time for GT-R of 7:38, also driven by Suzuki, was one of the fastest laps achieved by a production car despite conditions being slightly damp on two corners.
“At last year’s testing, we were frustrated by the conditions at the Nurburgring, always believing that the GT-R could go under seven minutes 30 seconds.” said Kazutoshi Mizuno, Chief Vehicle Engineer for GT-R. “Below seven minutes 30 seconds, the GT-R proves it is among the fastest mass-production cars in the world. We set out to build a multi-performance supercar accessible to anyone, anytime and anywhere - I believe the GT-R has delivered that promise.”
Deliveries of the all-new GT-R began in Japan in December 2007. Sales in the US and Canada start in July and extend to Europe and other markets over the next 12 months.

If thats true then wow. Whats with all these Nissan tests, why cant anyone outside Nissan conduct and back up these tests around the Ring. Afterall the car has already been out for a while. Come on Nissan people are starting to doubt.......if they havent already.
Looks like we are beginning to see some ****** in the armor of this "glorious" car. I too have been reading on the web about DSG failure on the GT-R, not to mention the possibility of exorbitant maintanance costs that make the service on my little Cayman S look like the deal of the century. Oh. And possible engine rebuilds at 60,000 miles to re-spray the cylinder walls? I bet that Nissan is about to learn a few things about the price of bringing this kind of performance to the masses. The masses can't afford it!
Another interesting thing. We are beginning to see several pictures of wrecked GT-R's on the web. Now, it could be that the folks buying these cars have more money than driving skill. Or maybe, those electronic gizmos are failing on these folks in the middle of some spirited driving, leaving them only with their limited skills to get them out of a really bad situation?
Seriously. Are we really to believe they spent years in development and testing including thousands of miles on the ring to suddenly "find a magic suspension setting" worth almost 10 seconds faster on the ring? C'mon, this is typical Japanese hype. The only thing that could make it even less credible is if Best Motoring did the video and the GT-R passed the Radical SR3 on the final stretch while the driver thrusts his arms in the air triumphantly while scores of Japanese engineers spectating at the finish line dropped their trousers and masturbated furiously.

Bad mental picture, please make it go away.

I just realized that out of all of the threads in the 997TT section, this thread has by far the most posts. It has 507, compared the 2nd place thread (a sticky, mind you) which only has 120.
Pretty amazing how much discussion the GT-R has generated.
