Fabspeed exhaust question

I had my fabspeed exhaust and tips installed today (sounds awesome) and I have a couple of questions. Has anyone else had any trouble getting the tips straight? The guy that did the install said he worked for over an hour and could not get them any better so I tried for an hour on one side and no luck. They both aim somewhat towards the outside and no matter what I can't get them straight. Any suggestions? Also, I was just going to put the stock tips back on but I must have cross threaded one of the bolts and screwed it up. If anyone has stock tips they want to get rid of drop me a pm as I would like to take them off your hands. Thanks for any advice.

went through the exact same problem and ended up stripping one bolt and had to have another one put in its place.it will never be perfect with those tips,i had to have them positioned where they were straight and hold them in place with one hand while tightening with the other

An exhaust shop can easily torch off the old stripped retaining nut and weld a new one in place for you. I did the same and paid $10 for the repair

Thanks guys. I was trying your one hand method but I think I need to get a flexible extender for my ratchet as I could not get the socket to fit on the bolt head very well when I had the tip somewhat straight. As far as the stripped bolt on the stock tip I will stop by an exhaust shop tomorrow and see if they can help. Thank again.

It's a shame that you spent all that money for an exhaust sytsem and the tips don't fit right. The tips aren't cheap either. I fell you pain.....

The "all that money part" is there, but also a lost day waiting for the exhaust to be installed and the constant aggravation/mechanic ill-feelings/more cash to get things correct. That's a lot of bother for 15-20HP. Not sure yet that the sound is really that much better in tone over stock.

You need to loosen the tip and the exit tube off the muffler. Then you can properly articulate the tips into the correct position.

same probs here... I think i spent 8 hours in summary under my car, loosen everything except the engine but still not satisfied.

The only solution, in my opinion, would be an other outlet pipe from the can to the tips - but there is no other available. I would even pay some extra $$ for this stuff, but no chance of getting them....

Given up...

maybe some 6speeder could try to get in contact with fabspeed and try to get a "group mod" , but as i´m on the other side of the world i´m not able to do some really helpful efforts....

Sound is great - tip alignment is a shame

I don't think lining up the tips is just a Fabspeed issue. With so little space to work in, it takes a lot of trial and error to get them just right. The modifed OEM tips on my TT were slightly off on my Europipe system. The tech worked long and hard with another tech and couldn't get them just right. I emailed a picture and an explanation to Stef at Europipe and he sent me smaller bushing/ring to use and the tips now line up perfectly.

I was thinking something like a sleeve over the pipe out of the can (sort of an extension) would give you a little more of ability to adjust. Now we just need someone to fabricate. I would pay for it just to relieve my **** issues.

You shouldn't have to do that. I mean for all the money these exhaust systems are($3k to 5k), they should fit perfect. That smaller bushing ring should have been it the Europipe kit form the get go..... And on the fabspeed should have their tips fit with no problems..

I don't disagree about fitting perfectly out of the box...but, I have to tell you the alignment difference probably was more a problem with my eyes and expectations than anything else. It takes the owner (me) standing over the rear looking at the alignment (with my glasses on) and even then the difference was so small it was probaly well within acceptable tolerances. I've had the same problem with Vettes and other twin outlet exhaust systems. As George Costanza would say - "it's not you, it's me". I'm sure the guys at Fabspeed and at Europipe know all the tricks of the trade to get alignment perfect but unfortunately we all can't go to Pennsylvania or Belgium for installs. At the end of the day everything is fine for me now.

I've been at FS shop a couple of times (where they went above and beyond on a customer service issue) and my tips are not straight either. I also don't think they look bad.

Same thing here! I'm very happy with the sound and overall with the Fabspeed product.

The misalignment was according to friend more in my head than others so I let it go as it is and not to worry about it any more.

Now let's have a competition about who's tips are most misaligned, here's my shot:

My dealer battled getting Fabspeed tips even on my 2005 997S with the factory exhaust. Never did get them straight. BTW - tips were on the car for about 3 months and are for sale. pm if interested. Present car has AWE exhaust & tips and they are perfect.
