How to launch

I'm new to this site, and I'll be picking up my new car next week after a year's wait. I'd like suggestions on the best way to launch this car without burning up the clutch. I opted for the manual transmission. I'm very excited about my car and don't want to do any unnecessary damage, so also interested in suggestions on how to break in the engine.

Thanks!

I have done it couple times, I hold it around 3500-3700RPM and release clutch fully with First engaged then.... second ... third.... until you get pull over.

You cant do this on a Tip bcoz u got no clutch to let go off ... the way to launch it on a Tip is to engage sport mode, traction off, get it into 1st gear then hold ur brake down fully and step on the gas fully as well till the boost gets built up then just let go of the brakes and enjoy the ride.

Can I ask a stupid question - what do you mean "launch" the car - is this a clutch break in??? I don't understand. Mine is showing up tomorrow morning at the dealer too (I am sooooo excited). Going down to take pics of it coming off the truck but won't take delivery until next week.

Greta, he's talking about drag racing launches. And what is being suggested (power brake launch) is really bad for the transmission. Holding the brake pedal down and applying the accelerator to increase boost is bad for the automatic transmission.

Because the turbo doesn't have the GT2's launch control system, there is no easy way to create substantial boost prior to stepping on the accelerator. Blipping the throttle may increase boost a little, but it requires dropping the clutch at high revs...also bad for the transmission.

Sorry i never been on a forum but to end my thought was to say how many times can you do this and not break your engine and tranny? So do you just bring er up to 4000 rpm dump the clutch and hold on is that reasonable for this car set up? Or do you need to be more laid back or not do it at all. V

It's really just not smart to launch all the time whenever you get the "look". Rather do it from a roll, or not at all. But, suit yourself, it's your lost money, not mine!

Tranny won't last long with repeated launches.

I've never taken this car to the dragstrip, but have done it in other AWD cars. Dumping the clutch at high rpm is not a good idea in AWD cars. Since there is so much traction available, something has to give as you will have little if any wheelspin. Best case scenario, you'll just bog off the line. Worst case scenario, something in the tranny will give, or eventually, your clutch will be toast. Usually, you'll need to slip the clutch, but again, enough passes down the strip and your clutch will be toast.

You seem intent on reving to full power then dumping the clutch or what ever. Stop asking questions and just do it. Do it over and over and over again until all those all those beautifully machined parts are turned into indigo blue steel powder. Then pay your dealer to install a new power kit and do it again. Enjoy, please enjoy!

It almost sounds like you've never driven a car before. You apparently have a Viper so you must know how to get off the line quickly.

Pics or ban.
