If the "no 09 Turbo" rumor is valid....
I could definitely see them switching to the 'integrated dry sump" design for the turbo and the rest of the line up. As noted , they know their demographic very well, probably less than 1% of owners are track junkies. Most owners, sad as it may be, have no clue about dry sump GT1 racing engines. They will save/ make $10K+ additional profit per car with the engine change alone. Why do you think 4 out of 5 cars come down the line on the cheaper Bridgestones vs Michelins with no adjustment in the price?
But all this is probably relavent to the immediate future, the next 911 will have a V8 that will be shared with the Cayenne and Panamera platforms. Porsche has maxed out the N/A flat6 design in racing platforms, they are getting beaten by Ferrari nearly every week in ALMS and have lost several key teams to Ferrari. This has been a slap in the face wake up call in Wiessach. A compact V8 also makes sense on a noise reduction and emmissions basis as well as the racing stuff.

1. Current GT2 Manufacturer point standings: Porsche 46 and Ferrari 43 after 2 races.
2. First race of the season at Sebring, Porsche placed first and second. Ferrari placed
3rd and 4th.
3. Second race at St. Petersburg, Porsche placed 2nd and 3rd. Ferrari placed 1st and
4th.
4. If you are referring to the White Lightning team leaving Porsche to go to Ferrari as a key team, where are they this season?
The Flying Lizard team still on top in ALMS GT2. The Porsche teams are not being beaten by Ferrari every week like you suggest. It's the other way around.
Have you talked to them yourself? Which team is your contact with? Let's state the facts here and not just some rumors you've read on line.
Yes, but the 997RSR was beaten at St. Petersburg and "thrashed" at Barcelona (LMS) by the F430 GT.
Also - don't forget that Sebring counted for more points. (winner got 30 points as opposed to 20)
It really doesn't look good for the 997RSR EVO. I'm very disappointed!! Porsche had all winter (and most of last season as it quickly became obvious that the then "new" 997RSR was no match for the F430 GT) to get it's act together, and they failed.
Unfortunately I think we are seeing the end of the dominance of the 911 in GT racing, and Porsche need to bring out a V8 mid-engined road car that can be homologated by the ACO so that they can regain their rightful position at the top of the GT podium .
Also - Ferrari will be bringing out a special VNL version (for the 24h Nurburgring in 2009) which will blow away the current 997RSR . Unless Porsche have an answer by then, they risk loosing their dominance in what has traditionally been their "home turf".
So Sad!
White lightning weren't the only team. Taffel was another.

To solidify your position, the Ferrari's should have dominated the top 5 finishes at St. Petersburg.
White Lighting is no where to be found in the points leaderboard.
Last time I checked, Taffel is in 2nd place after the Flying Lizard team.
I don't know about you , but that doesn't look like Ferrari dominance to me.
What I was pointing out is that Porsche are currently in the lead because only two races have taken place and one of them (which they won) scores more points than the others.
Fortune (or lack of it) determined that their "other" car actually won.
They are not even competing in the ALMS
BTW - This pains me too!!
I just don't believe in burying my head in the sand.
Sure thing buddy.
ANY year a Turbo is taken out of production benefits the previous cycle cars . I feel that Porsche should do this. 997.2 sales have dwindled . They might increase if no Turbo was made , used Turbo value would climb , and when the new Turbo came out in 2011 it may overall be a better launch date even for them .
just purchased 09 997tt about 6wks ago. received 10% off msrp.
what i saved i used for mods: H&R springs/sway bars, tubi-race headers & cats & remoras, GIAC retune with final bump in power to 605hp.
looking into Werks1 air intakes & Champion sport club intercoolers. (mods starting to add up $$). as for warranty issues; if the dealer did the mods, they stated that they will "take care of it
" i have nothing in writing just taking their "word" for it?
i may get burned later; im hopeful i wont; they seem very nice and have been very helpful but as you know in business that can turn on a dime.
