First miles

Hello everyone.
It looks like my 6 speed cab will be built 3 weeks earlyand be ready by mid June.
I have never owned a new Porsche, while apparently many of you are quite experienced driving them:so I was wondering about the optimum way to treat my car(speed,revs,shifting...)during its first few miles...
Many thanks in advance for your advice

Congratulations on your first Porsche! There are many threads here about how to break in your car (you can find them with a search), and probably just as many opinions. I recommend just to vary your RPMs, don't take off too hard until your clutch has an opportunity to break in, and have fun!

i picked up my car 2 weeks ago. however i have been traveling without a break i did log 150 miles sweet car. I brought the manuals with me and read them. Keep car under 4200rpm which is very hard and learn the clutch action a little tricky i had many of your feeling everything just comes together once you loggged a few milesI will be home tonight for 10 days and looking forward to my car dog and girlfriend

Some say drive it like you stole it, others say follow the manual.

There are, however, two universal truths with which no one will disagree:

1. Vary the rpm's for the first 1k miles. Don't use the cruise for long periods of time.

2. NEVER drive it hard until the oil is completely warmed up.

Enjoy and post pics!

Since I am new to this forum, I really hate to be a little sarcastic but why not read the manual, ask your service dept, do a search? I did all these things and there is a lot of good info. Congrats on the car. By the way, I am one of those who followed the break in to the letter.

I imagine that another, non negligible, advantage to picking up my car at the factory is:...
...if there is the slightest problem with it,I know where to bring it back to

I drive my cars as follows:

1) Always let the oil warm up before any hard driving (agree Jamie)
2) In the early miles I try to learn the car and allow it to learn my driving style-- leaning more towards pampered driving with an occasional sprint .

On first few drives be real careful till the tires have been worn some.

Upon start-up dont let the car sit & idle, drive right off keeping the rpms down until it warms up. Vary rpms with no Wide Open throttle.

When shutting-down let her idle for a minute or so before turning off.

Keep Checking oil.

Remember to angle in on incline's. Be alert not to scrub your wheels/tires on curbs.

Most importantly - ENJOY!
