The real reason to by a GT2!! 2:06 at VIR!!

I was at VIR Nov. 22, 2008 with Carolina's PCA with my red GT2. A driver from New York drove his white GT2 down to do some lapping also. On Sunday I finally did one lap at 2:11, with a average of around 2:15. Carlos E. Gomez is a real driver, watch his video and learn what a 997 GT2 can really do. Enjoy!!! " /><O></O>

That was some nice driving. And the car still has a few seconds left in her. I was hearing that some guys who have hundreds of track days at VIR were running 2:06's in bone stock GT3's. And I beleive Randy Pobst ran a 2:00 or 2:02 in stock CGT. Said it was one scary ride though.

Dell (last name escapes me) has a vid up on Rennlist of running a 2:03 in his very near stock 996 GT3.

I was there at VIR this past weekend too. Your car is gorgeous. I wish we would have met. The white one was insane too. Loved it. Congrats on the lap times. I'd expect that your car has another 5-6 seconds left in it from Carlos' times.

It was pretty crazy weather out there, especially Friday morning, wasn't it?

Very cold weekend, but Sunday afternoon let us put some nice laps together. What impressed me about Carlos was that he drove down from NY on Cup tires ran the great times on a cold wet Friday and then drove back home. Think of what he will do with a set of Hoosiers on the car. I think that I could match his times with my Hoosiers but he would still leave me by 5 seconds with Hoosiers on his car.

The GT2 is a expensive car but when you consider that my brother and I both drive the car it becomes a bargain super car. And my son also used it on Sunday when our Z06 broke. We really started not to take the GT2 but after 4 track weekends we are really pleased with it.

I know of Dell and his times, but that car was no where near stock. I think he's sold it now. It had every suspension mod and power mod you can get for a GT3 outside of going FI. And weight reduction to boot. The mod list was quite extensive. And michelin slicks.

Dell can drive, but 2:03 for a near stock 996 GT3 is fairly far fetched.

Gotcha. But he wasn't on slicks that day. Actually, and this is so funny and very true, he was on used R compounds... 285s in the back! I knew that the car had been set up, but that's not a mod in my book. It didn't have Motons or Bilsteins. Factory coilovers. When I said 'near stock' I actually was referring to the cat delete pipe (I think that's what it was). I know of no other power mods, but I'm sure you're right. But when I had dinner with him last Friday, that was the only power mod he mentioned when I asked. STILL...

And yeah, he's sold it now. Has an RSA now. Had it running 2:14s last I heard on the 'try it out' day.

This is from his for sale add on Rennlist, sale started end of July, the car had some of everything on it. And had it for a while. I dont know if he ran that time at VIR prior to getting all of this but I do know that as much as he runs VIR he would have gone faster than 2:03 if he had run the other time next to stock. But I'm almost sure he had all this and slicks when he ran that time. That's coming from guys that run with him all the time.

Brakes:
PFC Direct Drive 2-piece front rotors
Motorsport rear rotors
PFC pads all around
Castrol SRF brake fluid
Conversion to BBS Studs
Braided Steel brake lines

Engine/Transmission:
Copans built tranny with cup gears (not cheap but unbelievable on track!)
Cup LSD
Cup Race Clutch
Cup Race Flywheel
(including Cup guide tube, clutch fork release bearing, pressure plate, flywheel bearing)
**this is over 10K worth of work that was just done in June**

Suspension:
Moton Double Adjustable Clubsport dampers with QD’s at all corners and monoball shock mounts
Hyperco Springs 900F/1100R
Eibach Zero Rate helper springs at all four corners
Motorsport upper rear control arms (dog bones)
Motorsport lower rear control arms with full monoball assembly
Motorsport front control arm bushings and spherical bearing bushing
Motorsport front and rear toe arms with bump steer adjustment
Adjustable drop links front and rear

I am sure there is stuff that I am forgetting but that would just be a bonus to the whole thing. I think I have all the pertinent goodies listed. Most all of the work has been done inside the last 9 months so it is ALL very new

And here he is in Sept 07 running 2:10 and 2:09 when the GT3 was still near stock. Look at the other vids and you'll see the steering wheel change etc.

Not hating, but 2:03 in a near stock 996 GT3 on used R-comps is magician territory.

I don't think you're hating. I just think you are right! That makes me feel better about my times, for sure. Thanks a bunch.

Hop on over to the lap times thread in the 996TT/GT2 section and add some. We need more people on the list. And you'll see more realistic attainable times for the occasional DE guys like we are. GT3's, GT2's, TT's etc. All welcome, we are building the list of tracks based on whoever submits times. Would love to add you.

Cool. I'm going back this Friday. I'd rather not put mine on the list yet. This past weekend was the first time out there with the car in its current configuration. I was braking before the 6 on the front, not doing more than 108 on the uphill esses, and holding it at 145 on the back straight. On Friday, we had some crazy cross winds, slight snow, standing water, etc. Running like this, I got a handful of Traqmate verified 2:12s. I only got to run one day because of an issue I'm working through now. So I didn't run hard on day one, and then that ended up being all I had out of three. So, I don't want to put those up there, but I know I'm good for a 2:08 or 09 this weekend if I get my issues resolved. My car's good for a few more on top of that I think, just not with me in it right now.

Ok, well be sure to post up some details on the weekend and you can add the times when you get ready. Hope to get to your goal, just remember not to try to hard, smooth is fast.

It looks like a Traqmate set up to me.
