Looking to move up to a TT from my 997C2S. I'm looking at 2 cars:
1) a 2005 996TT S cab ~ $89K CPO, 2) a 2007 997TT coupe ~ $99k CPO.
996TT has 10k miles, 997TT has 8k miles. Color (both are black) and options don't matter that much and both fall within my budget.
What would you choose and why?

this is an easy one-i have had a 996tt and presently own a 997tt. first, you don't specify mileage. a 997tt is a much better car than a 996tt. not to say that a 996tt is a bad car, but the improvements made on the 997tt are many and significant. the 997tt is a much better driving and hanlding car, the interior is nicer and roomier-need i say more. secondly, i think 89k for an 05 996tt cab is wildly overpriced, unless the mileage is real low, like 5,000 miles, and even then... and 99k for an 07 997tt is a bit closer in price to where it should be, as long as it has low mileage-i would say less than 7000. i think that you could probably do a few thousand better in price, but if the car is done just right and has low mileage, then it makes sense. obviously, get the 997tt over the 996 turbo s cab.
I know a 997tt in Norcal . It was my friends car , never modded , sitting on a dealership lot for months. He was impeccable with it but hardly drove it and it made no sense to keep it and let it sit in his garage with a car cover on it . He pampered his car as much or even more than I do . If you want the specfics on the car PM me and I'll tell you what I know .
I like the 997tt but the 996tt sure is nice too . I saw one in the used car section on 6speed with only 5K miles . I know nothing about the car but it sure looks pretty.

Greta --I had major issues with the 996 *facelift* lights . Xenon light theft was rampant with them in my area and that particular model (according to the body shop) was one of the easier cars to pull them off. In my case they tore apart the entire front end but most folks simply had them popped out .
997 for sure. There are a number of well sorted, low mileage 996TTs for sale in the $50-60k range. CPO or not, $89k is absurd.

I think the OP should definitely go with a 997 tt...I too am looking at upgrading from a C2S to a TT and have been looking at my options. Can those of you who have a 997TT give me and the OP an idea of what are the must have options.

1)sport chrono - gives the overboost ability to the car (more power)
2)limited slip differential - improves cornering and handling
everything else is icing on the cake
i agree with eclou and chris. you MUST get the turbo chrono-without it, it is a different car, and a tough one to sell to anyone who understands turbos. the lsd is nice to have, but i wouldn't turn down a nice car that doesn't have it. my impression is that it is more important if you are into tracking the car. if you live in an environment that is cold in winter, heated seats are awful nice. if you are getting an 09, the bluetooth/xm/universal adaptor trio makes sense to get, as this is the one thing that makes the 09 different than the 07 and 08. otherwise, everything else is iceing on the cake. just make sure that you don't get a car by accident without the chrono-i almost made that mistake while looking at a real nice used low mileage 07-i was trying to figure out why the price was so low in aug 08-then after looking, i saw that the chrono was missing from the dash-a bad mistake to make.

By the way I couldnt imagine not having Sport Chrono on my S, its like i get in the car, turn the key, turn on the radio, turn on the SPORT BUTTON, put on my seatbelt and then I'm ready to go, LOL
