Hey Guys, ive had my car for a couple of years with no problems at all (was a conversion from an 05 carrera). but i guess as it is now outta warrenty its time for the problems to begin haha!!!.


Basically i came back from a 2 week holiday ( i live in london) started my car and let it heat up for around 15 min then went for a 40 min drive around. ran a few erins got back into the car it started fine again and off i went, although i started to notice something this time.


1. The first thing was that in first gear when i gave the a bit of gas, it seemed to stall or loose power at 1500 rpm (tested it out numerous times), also gun shot like sounds started coming from the exhaust kinda like a busted old ford. but the odd thing was it was working perfectly fine throughout all other gears


2. The second thig which happened was that the next time i came to start the car the battery was completly drained, i got one jump start nd kept it on for about 45 min (was advised on that one) then switched off nd when i tried to start it on again the car was completly dead (3rd battery to die in 1.5 years and all have been porsche batteries) .


Sending the car back to Ruf next week but could someone shed light to what the problem seems to be????
(was also told it could be a fuel pump problem and should get it checked in london before shipping it or would that be a waste of money??)

I know you are in London is english your first language?

 

i have talked to ruf about the problem but told me they wont be able to pin point the problem unless they have the car which means shipping it off to germany. The reason im reluctant to do so is because if it is a small problem which can be solved over here i would then be able to save a huge amount (on the shipping cost).

would you reccomend sending it to an indipendent porsche shop to take a look at it first as opposed to just sending it straight away??

 

Have you had the car scanned with a Porsche Tester ?

computer device that you plug into your car and it allows you to diagnose some problems by "reading" some of the stored error codes on the ECU

i ordered the Durametrics one online (it comes with a hardware component so you can connect your laptop to the car) and coincidentally used it to diagnose a problem on a friend's Cayenne just last night.

no guarantee it will find your particular problem, but it may save you quite a bit of cost if it turns out to be something really simple.

You could stop by a local dealership and simply ask them to read if any error codes are present.

 

exactly, it may not need to go to Germany at all, could be a very simple repair, take it to your local Porsche Shop first and have them take a look

 

Maybe bad tank of gas. Water in the fuel

Well i had my car sent to parr (the porsche specialist) and was told it was an alternator problem, but was told because of the supercharger they had to drop the engine to do make the change. they said it would take 15 hours. Does all of this sound right?

If they are too concerned with touching the S/C then I don't know that I'd let them work on the car at all... Moving the blower to get to the alternator would be approx. 1,000x's easier than dropping the motor. Also I would ask them to confirm just how poor the alternator is performing... Porsche's batteries are notoriously bad. The FIRST thing I would do is swap in a NON-Porsche battery as they usually only last about 5 or 6 months and are usually at least twice as expensive as something like an Interstate battery (not sure what brands you have over there) - The big secret is that 99% of car batteries are made by the same 3 companies, whether they are Wal-mart, Yellow Top, Interstate, etc... Porsche, like any other company, just farms them out to the lowest bidder, slaps a PORSCHE label on it and charges you your first born child.

Start with the battery, go to an indy shop and get a good reading on what sort of power your alternator is putting out... It's not impossible that it's already bad, just unlikely.
