07 TT or GT3 RS
07 TT or GT3 RS
I'm in the market for something new, I have an 03 TT. I would like a GT3 RS, I track the car 4-5 times per year, but am worried about the manners of the RS on the track in the hands of a not so professional like me. I love my TT and would probably like a 997 TT, any thoughts on which way to go??
If your a truly drivers kind of guy..GT3 RS, that being said TT is your everyday drivers car...haha sorry coudlnt be any more help. Hard decision, but not that hard as long as you weigh the pros and cons of each and see which better suits you. Keep in mind the RS is alot more money and is good out the box, IMO the turbo needs some mods to bring out its super car character. That being said the RS proboly will retain better value. But you can get steals on TT right now. haha GL jus know either way you win

The GT3-RS is a fabulous track car and a fair daily driver. The clutch is too stiff, the suspension is too firm and the car is too loud (over-exaggerated for literary effect). The NA motor sounds great and puts out lots of linear power with limited "extra" power available through easy bolt-on mods.
The Turbo is a great daily driver and an adequate track car. The clutch is too soft, the suspension is mush, and the car is too quiet (also an over-exaggeration). The Turbo still has turbo lag, but the untapped potential of the engine through simple and relatively inexpensive mods is pretty amazing.
It all depends on how you plan to use the car. My modified Turbo is a pretty easy daily driver that performs very well during the occasional visit to the track. It fits my needs perfectly. If I drove it to work less and at the track more, I would buy a GT3-RS (or a GT2).
Put another way, a GT3-RS is Papa Bear (too hash), a stock Turbo is Mama Bear (too soft) and a modifed Turbo is Goldilocks (just right). A lot of drivers here really like Papa Bear too though.

If you want to go fast on the track, get a 997 Turbo. My unmodified 997 turbo passes 997 GT3s and GT3 RSs all day long in DE. There is no way for a GT3 or GT3 RS to generate the kind of out-of-corner acceleration and end-of-straight speed that the turbo does with ease. All that extra power and four wheel grip means you choose when you want to pass and the GT3 (RS) doesn't get a vote. Don't believe it? Go to your next PCA DE and see what I'm talking about first hand.

Sparkhill's response is a good one but in all honesty the cars end up feeling different to different people. You really just need to drive them both and see what fits your needs. Their so chalk and cheese in every way. Fast revving, snappy, you feel everything, rough-ish, effort, loud etc... vs softer, luxury, torque-monster, freeway killer, lighter steering... You just need to drive them both:P
I am lucky to have both. My TT has been modified so that it has more power and better suspension. The TT is a nice daily driver, but all of the nurses want a ride in the GT3RS
The great thing about the GT3RS is that you can easily alter the suspension (e.g., hardness or softness of rear anti-roll (sway) bar) to make it to more or less or hardcore on the track. In the right hands and at a technical track, it will run circles around the more powerful, but heavy TT...

Thanks to all!
Thanks for all your input, I will take the advise and drive them both starting tomorrow! Going to Rizza Porsche in Chicago to drive a 997 TT, then I need to find a GT3 RS. I'll let everyone know what I decide to purchase in a future thread.
And the TT ran circles around the GT3RS in the ring... just another thought.
Out of the box, go GT3RS, if you are looking to mod, go TT or GT2

I call B.S. No way that will happen if the drivers are of comparable skill levels.
