GT2 body kit on a 997tt - Aerodynamic problems?

Hi guys,

I'm thinking to do a full GT2 body conversion on my 997tt, would it be a smart move considering the aerodynamics of the car? I agree it looks a lot better, but it is not my only concern

I'd like to hear some opinions and experiences if there are any.

Thanks a lot.

As long as you match the front bumper and wing you will be improving your aerodynamics.

I believe I've read that GT2 has worse aerodynamics than a TT, is this true or not?

A bigger rear wing sacrifices some acceleration for added downforce.

^^^ Very true. The drag coefficient is slightly higher on the GT2 (.32 as compared to .31 on the turbo). With that being said, the downforce on the GT2 is 64 pounds at 124 mph at the rear wheels. That is almost 30 pounds more than that of the turbo. Thus, bbywu is totally correct with his statement above. Just my $.02, but I would take the GT2 aerodynamics anytime of day!!!

I would not do the rear bumper, the Turbo bumper looks better IMO. I don't believe there would be any serious problem for the air flow.

The only place you may notice a difference would be top speed, which would be a bit lower due to the higher drag (of course, added engine power can make up for this).

From a user stand point, the car has tremendous downforce at speed. I have been 185 in mine over a mile run, and it feels so planted I don't have any worries. Only been to 165 in a TT, and the road wouldn't allow more speed. I can't imagine how my rear wing is really effecting speed to 60 mph or so. Just seems mininal in effect, but who am I to know. A GT2 driving down the road is a beautiful sight, and IMHO better looking than a TT (slight biased here). Get it done asap. I would like to know the price of the modification. I've always thought the price of the GT2 was way too high, but the cost of mods and changes to a TT brings that number closer. Mod costs to a GT2 are minimal for MAJOR hp change.

What GT Parts were you planning on using? (as in manufacturer)

I would have to disagree, sure the hp changes are minor, but converting a TT to a GT2 would cost about the same as just getting the GT2 in the first place.

Consider the bumper, rear bumper, side skirts, deck lid, then paint and professional install. Then redo the suspension, flywheel, clutch, tighter steering, the GT2 seats, and you are looking at the same price tag.

At first I thought the GT2 wasn't worth it, but when you start modding the turbo, if horsepower isnt your only measure, you realize that it really is right on the money (excluding dealer markup of course).

don't forget swapping out the front axles, deleting the diff, changing spring rates, and i think u have to do something so pasm works with 2wd. (yes i looked into this recently).

regarding aero, i was told it doesn't upset the aero on tt if u just swap to gt2 front bumper. looks great too!
