Current market on a "new" 2008?
I'm actively hunting for a 997tt/cab and came across a 2008 with <100 miles on it. The car is manual, includes chrono, but no LSD. MSRP is $149,040 with a bunch of options I don't care about (and minus most of the options I'm interested in). My questions...
Is it really that difficult to get the LSD option installed post-factory?
Is it likely that I'll be able to negotiate to get options removed/added?
What's the current market on an essentially new 2008? How about a car with <10,000 miles?
Does a zero-owner car seem to offer good value to anyone here?
Many thanks in advance!

Yes . Keep in mind that all Tiptronics do not have LSD and about half the manuals do not . This is a nice option but ought not be a deal breaker .

Not really. They may accomodate a wheel swap or add a sport shifter but ask them to add ceranics or Gt2 seats and they will let you walk unless you pay for it.

20K roughly
How about a car with <10,000 miles?
30K with CP0 for less than 5K miles .
Closer to 10K mi its closer to 35K .
Does a zero-owner car seem to offer good value to anyone here?
Not if the car was punched .
Not if the previous owner treated the car right .
Not if the car that was treated right has CPO .
Not if you pay less money and get a great car .
BTW yoir region is tough for Turbo cabs at this time . apparently it's "cab season" in the northeast .

If I was in the market for a 997 I would never go new.
These cars are made to last, mine has 31,500 miles on it so far and its been very reliable, the only real issue was 3 bad spark plugs (under warranty) and slave clutch cylinder (known issue - covered under warranty).
Find a car that has been well maintained, which shouldn't be too difficult, save yourself a ton of money.
Plus, you gotta remember that the base price is $125K so you are paying for $25K in options. There are some options that are actually adding value to the car but they are very limited, mostly LSD, sport chrono. Everything else the second that the car is sold used is no longer worth anything.
When Im done with my 997TT I will be heading over to a GT3 and I will definitely be picking up used. Let someone else take the depreciation hit.

The main factor was the clutch not engaging at the correct height when the car was cold.
I have to pull out of the driveway in reverse and in the mornings the clutch just didnt engage where it should, after it warmed up, the problem went away, but because I had to pull slowly out of the driveway I was constantly on/off the clutch so it was easy to notice.
There was also one time where after 2 minutes of driving I was in 1st gear at a red light and was able to get my foot completely off the clutch without the car moving.
There may also be a clicking sound, because I did notice that when I had the problem, but I cant recall if the sound went away after it was fixed. Car's been in the shop for the two weeks so I haven't driven it recently.

They actually have a recall now on the slave cylinders in 07 cars I believe. Least that's what they told me when they did mine this winter under warranty.
Agree these cars are built to last, 35k here, zero issues.

Thanks for the tips.
This does seem like a deal breaker to me, since I will be tracking the car.
Is anyone out there using the Quaife with an otherwise stock powertrain?
Has anyone swapped in a stock LSD?

If LSD is a dealbreaker I would suggest limiting your searches . Adding it is expensive and time consuming .
Just a question - do you think all 997t's on the track have LSD ? BTW --no 996tt's came with LSD . I do feel you should get the car you want and not try and add this .
No, just the fast ones.

I've swapped transmissions and differentials before, but never in a P-car. I'm just trying to get a sense for how much of a project it would be.

You think all the tiptronics are slow ?
I am beginning to sense an LSD internet zealotry which exempts the entire 996tt line up and about 70 percent of the Turbos along with the entire 997.1 North America base cars .
I'd sure hate to see the look on your face when passed by a cayman s

I've tracked rear-wheel drive cars with LSDs and high horsepower (say, an 700+rwhp MKIV Supra) and I really cannot imagine not having that extra stability and power distribution. Perhaps someone could comment on the differences in track performance between an LSD-equipped P-car and a vanilla rear-end.
