changing from 996 turbo

Hello everybody,
I'm a member from Europe and at this moment I'm driving a 996 turbo x 50( no mods) from 2003 and. My car has at this moment 40000 km and I just did the big inspection and prolonged the cpo warranty till 2010. My car is black on black and I like it very much and only drive it at the weekends and everytime I drive it I'm very very very happy. I adore my car. The last 6 months I'm looking on the net for a 997 turbo just by curiosity and last week I saw a very beautifull 997 turbo . Normally I do forget them but this time I couldn't resist and phoned the owner. I had a very good conversation with him and now I can't forget this car. It is a grey car with black leather an pccb and 10000 km from 2007. My question is , is the difference from 996 x50 to an 997 turbo that big. I know that there are a few topics already , but I wanted to hear some real impressions from car lovers like me, with driving experience in real life, not some comparision from modded cars on a track. I don't mod my cars and only drive them in the weekend. In the week I work a lot and don't have time.
Please give me some advise

Answer

I think that the number of members that have owned a 996 and then purchased a 997 may be low. It depends upon your personal financial situation. Can you afford to do it? Is it worth it? I love my 997. Do you want 480 hp.?

It's difficult to help you. It sounds as if you love your 996 TT. I understand you are being tugged by the 997 TT, but you still have a TT. If the delta between purchase price and selling price is within your incremental value assessment, go for it. Of course really only you can make that determination. Drive the 997 as many miles as they will let you. Maybe they'd let you "trade" the TT's for a day and cap, say, at 50 miles driving or something.

I had my 996tt for 3 years and it had a remap and exhaust running 520bhp, it was a good car.

BUT I just purchased a 997tt which is stock and I must say what an improvement trust me!!! The interior quality is much better, the layout inside is better, it looks better outside aswell, the handling just takes the p**s and the VTG turbos are something else!

You wont regret it, plus a couple of mods an you will get 570-580bhp which will quite a bit faster than a tuned X50!

Hope this helps.

Thanks, guys for the reply. I think also that I have to drive the 997 as much as possible to make sure that I wouldn't regret selling my 996 turbo. Financially seen It isn't the smartest time to sell 996 turbo and buying a 997. Here In belgium we also have to pay a tax (one time) when you put a car in trafic . You have to pay it once evrytime you put a car in traffic. A turbo is charged 5000 euro.....

Yes I think you should test a car first then make the choice after, wether to spend the extra Euros on it!! I sold my car for 36000euros and bought my 997 for close to 70000euros but I will mod mine.

You have to see if its worth the extra 30hp and having a younger car!

I had a 996 TT cab and now have a 997 TT cab. I am much happier with the 997. I feel that it drives better, looks better, and has a better interior. If the money is not a problem then you will be thrilled with the 997. In my opinion it is a far superior car.

Sir : I had a 996TT X50 car, it was a good car but there is no comparison to the 997TT. My 997TT was faster and better built. After my 997TT I bought a 997GT2 and once again there is no comparison. Porsche seems to always make the next iteration better. I have had 25 turbos over the years and each newer model is better. I don't see how they can improve on the 997 GT2, but they will!!!!!! Thanks
