I am in the processing of buying a new car.
Kinda struggling on whether I should order the upcoming 997.2 turbo (probably with the new engine and PDK) or wait for the 998 turbo...
is the 998 turbo worth waiting for? any major improvements over the 997?

998 (or whatever they call it) is a long, long way off it seems. Strike a deal on a 3 year lease now, enjoy it, give it back and get into the next one.
Also, if they stick PDK and the new engine into the 997.2 then the 998 wont exactly offer much of an improvement over that due to the evolutionary vs. revolutionary changes Porsche usually takes.
Of course I'd recommend you get todays Turbo with arguably the better engine in it

I just bought a '09 Turbo cab and got one heck of a deal on it. The expected changes for the 997.2 were not major enough to make me wait, and I know that my purchasing power/leverage would have been likely greatly diminished. The next major turbo revison won't appear for at least 2-3 more years. That's a long time to pass up on a great deal of driving enjoyment!

If you have the means, just pull the trigger and start enjoying the thrill of a Turbo sooner rather than later. There will always be the next best updated Turbo from Porsche around the corner, so waiting can become a never ending situation.
I have been anticipating the arrival of the 2010 Turbo with PDK for 2 years. I have literally placed a deposit over a year ago. I can't wait to get it. Obviously there is always something better around the corner, but ( I believe) this is the first time Porsche has done a refresh in a model year like this and I am going to keep waiting. The 998 or 991 series turbo is probably a few years off,,,but who knows really. Bottom line...I dont think you can go wrong with a porsche and I certainly dont think you can go wrong with a turbo.
your dealing/buying power won't be the same a year or two from now. Dealers are very willing to deal during these times which can save you a lot of $$. My advice; get a good deal on a great car now and start enjoying it for 2-3yrs. When the lease is up, then get into the 998TT.
Not me. I am keeping my Turbo forever . I would consider a Gt3 to compliment it as another garage queen but after reading Nyamg's post about deposit refunds I probably will pass on an ordered car.
Regardless --this will be my last Turbo. I love the car and am so glad i have it . I just feel that in most cities it's not practical . The car itself is fantastic .. it the way others aroud it detract from its enjoymemt . It's a lot of money to put on the road and every time I drive it I worry about parking it . I took it out on a Sunday drive a few weeks back and some idiot speeding with a boat almost hit it . Plus in this slow economy driving around in this car means looking over one's shoulder beause in a struggling city it's a criminal's full time job to rob and this car attracts negative attention too . It's not all smiles and happy faces .. not that what others think really matters unless it has its risk. Lately with half the city unemployed or faced with pay cuts or foreclosure .. a new 997tt does make a statement .
I will pass on the new car.

911's don't attract attention, I find it a bit annoying.

also, due to the emission restriction, many brands are in the middle of radically updating their product line, therefore, i think it might be better to buy new gens instead of facelifts...
Another option on my list would be the upcoming 2010/2011 D4 S8, with 4.0 V8 TT or 5.0 V10 TT (even more sporty n luxrious than the D3, and the platform should last another 7-8 years.)
and wait for the new 998 turbo or the next gen R8 as the next next car. (both still 4-5 years away?)
