Ceramic or aftermarket Brembo Brakes?
Ceramic or aftermarket Brembo Brakes?
Hi all,
I'm looking at a couple of 2009 turbos on dealer lots. I'm trying to locate one with the ceramic composite brakes, but they are hard to find and deals are difficult to make on the models that have them. Would I just be better off getting some aftermarket Brembos? There's a significant cost savings as well. Porsche factory ceramic composite brakes are an $8,800 option (which I can probably get down to around $8,000 or less with some hard bargaining). Brembos are $3,825 over at AWE Tuning. http://www.awe-tuning.com/pages/shar...L=Brembo380kit
How much of a difference in stopping distances/brake fade/feel would I really see by going with the Brembos?
Question two, since I'm unlikely to put the car on the track more than a couple of times a year, am I just wasting my money by going with anything other than the stock OEM brakes?

the stock OEM brakes are excellent brakes already. If you're not a huge tracker, then stick with the red ones. If you need more braking power later on, then upgrade to the Brembo big brake system.
^^ agreed. Unless you'll be spending a large percentage of time on the track, or seriously abusing your brakes, I'd say go with Brembo. Keep in mind that the ceramics are not only an expensive option up front, but expensive when it comes to replacing components down the road as well. Also, ceramic brakes (in my opinion) are not necessarily the best option for street use, as they typically work best when they're used hard, and hot. We run the 380mm Brembo kit on our shop car and I am amazed at how well the car stops.
Just to pile on here, I bought the PCCBs and fried them on the track and then got the Brembo GT kit. If I were to do it again, I would have gotten the Reds and put the savings in the bank for the Brembo kit if you end up needing it--- I wouldn't do it right away.
BTW, I think the price you referenced is for one axle only.

Not to mention the PCCB's are a near on/off switch... a little over-kill if the car doesn't see much track use. Consider this another vote for the Reds and upgrading to the Brembos down the line if you feel the need for a little more stop.
The stockers are the best brakes I've ever felt...don't waste your money...there are lots of other things to **** away your cash on with these cars...

i agree.
the stock brakes (red) are excellent. they feel more effective than my cl55 amg brakes. (thats how good)
also if u dont track your car, then stick with the red ones.
if u want to change them u can always go for the brembo brake system.

I had to have the ceramics for these reasons:
1)They stop unbieleveably well (I know so do the reds)
2)They don't rust (I hate the way rust looks behind the rim)
3)No brake dust (brake dust sucks
)
4)They look amazing (you can see them from a mile away)
Just my .02, you can't go wrong either way they are both great breaks
good luck

If I get after market brakes I would go for Movits...they last much longer then any other brakes....not to mention their CEC carbon brakes....
500-600 laps on Nurinburg till anything need to be changed where are stock are not good for 20-30 laps...
Also the est thng is that they can be modified and be put at any other car you buy next, so you dont loose money...its kind of an investment, if my sotck brakes will die, MOvit will my only choice !!!
I also have some technical info if anyone needs...explinin why they are better and why they last longer but simply they use more steel )))

The stock brakes are phenomenal, and if you are going to do only a couple of track days a year it will be a long time before you need to upgrade.
The first things you'll end up switching is to Pagid pads to get better brake pad wear, and then replacing the OEM rotors with ones that are slotted instead of cross-drilled because they'll last longer.

I have the Brembo Gt system and love it. The problem I saw with ceramics is the replacement cost of the rotor. Plus the 997 I bought did not have the ceramics so I had no choice. I am not positive but the rotor is not a warranty item.
