Any suggestions for radar detectors?
Ive ran both, V1 is more sensitive but has more annoying false alerts out of the box vs. the 8500. I use the V1 in my turbo but only bust it out if Im on highways, local cops all use laser nowadays, radar is a rarity unless its CHP or small town cops on highways.
Your results may vary but Im getting a laser jammer next.

i have a V1, K40 and the new hardwired Escort 9500 with the laser diffuser. i like the 9500 because it starts to learn all the false signals via gps and stores them to memory. the laser diffuser is a must as it has already saved me a couple of times. the range on the V1 is alittle bit better, however, it not as practical as the escort because it does pick up all the false signals and store them into memory. overall, i vote for the passport 9500 hardwired. it is a bit costly with the installation ($2000 retail) but so far i have gotten the best results with it.
V1's saved my *** too many times to count. the arrows are great. i need to buy another one.
and a laser diffuser i guess.

I recommend Laser Interceptor. I had a Lidatek for 5 years. Worked great but had to replace it every year because it stopped working. The support to get it replaced was painful. They did replace one for free and the others I had to buy. Plus I had it installed on several other cars plus my Ducati. And still their service sucked.ffice

The LI is expensive and the install is a pain if you do it yourself. There are two receivers up front and two in the rear (for best coverage). The manual is sparse but the customer service is awesome. I sent an e-mail for some help on a Sunday and received a call back in 10 minutes. Plus they have a forum for ideas and help. I get lasered a lot and seems to work well. No, I am not a paid spokesperson. I just like great service when I spend $1,500 on something.<O

I have no idea why anyone bothers with laser jammers.
The best ones are still junk and I have tried them all with terrible results.
It gives you a false sense of security.
The V1's patent runs out shortly, so look to everyone else to include the stupid arrows if that is your main reason for the V1 loyalty.
I buy products that work and that are tested in my own hands. I don't rely on posts that include references to radar sites, they are all paid to hand out awards.
I have had the V1 next to the 9500IX on numerous occasions. I have had a car follow me with one or the other and the V1 can not handle the real world city driving as well as the 9500ix.
Plain and simple, the V1 just beeps. It is one big false machine. The 9500 learns, and learns quickly. It only goes off when it should and it provides plenty of warning.
It saved my bacon 4 times the first week and Sharkwerks can tell you how fast my car is. At 170+ the unit is flawless.
The truth is, common sense and knowing the roads are your best bet.
Those that still claim the V1 is the best just admit you have never tried anything else.

I have to agree with the post above^^^. Around DC, many of the cops time you by air or by following at speed. And now, they have installed freeway speed cameras (like Phoenix, AZ).
The more track driving I do, the less likely I am to speed on civilian roads. Too many tickets and too close to the edge for my taste.
Although I have been let go twice recently around here when they saw I was an instructor for BSR (we train many of the federal police in high speed pursuit, shooting from cars, etc).

I would disagree. Having used several models for over 5 years, I have had tremendous success. When I lived in Cleveland (they almost solely use lasers), I was lasered almost every week with only one ticket. I got that ticket because I only had a front mounted laser jammer and they hit me from behind. The current very small town I live in has only 4 police cars and they laser constantly. I was pulled over recently because he wanted to know why my car always gave his laser an error code. He clearly knew I had a jammer and was giving me a hard time. I know they work. They are a little finicky on the install as well. The receiver/transmitter has to be in the right spot, level to the road and straight.
I would agree with this. We often get used to one thing and are concerned about change. After years of using a V1, I am going to try the 9500IX technology.
Other then that one issue, it seems like the ultimate unit so far.
I got rid of my V1 (I still have it but dont use it) because it beeps and blops too much. It gets so annoying that sometimes I mute it and it has a dial to mute it. One time I got a ticket because I muted the V1 and forgot to turn it back up. Last week on the freeway the 9500ci made Ka bann alarm and i slowed down to 62 mph. I went past a cop on the shoulder and as I passed him he lasered my jammer which set off the alarm. I guess the cop was saying I know why you slowed down and I know what youve got.
I love the 9500ci, technology moves on and this is the latest and greatest. Another thing the 9500ci does is that after sounding the alarm first time the volume of the alarm drops down so no more annoying loud beeps.

I checked out this unit recently and it's pretty impressive. I have one question though. Let's say you drive past the same false alarm every day so the unit stores the location and therefore doesn't alert you next time you're at that same location. For the sake of argument....what happens if a cop decides to hide near that location the next day to give radar. Does that mean the 9500 will not go off, or does it remember the frequency or type of the signal so it can tell the difference between the previously stored false alarm and the actual radar signal? Curious, since I'm considering picking one of these up.
