Any suggestions for radar detectors?
i believe it stores the type of frequency. so if it picks up a different frequency all together, it will go off. you can also mark specific locations. for example, if you know a cop hides out in the same spot on a regular basis, then you press the "mark" button when you drive past that spot. in the future, it warns you that you are driving up on a marked location. pretty cool.
dk996TT is correct...I've had this happen to me already with my 9500ci - a state tropper was parked at a spot that's been learned / marked as a false alarm, but since his frequency was different it picked him up as a real alarm and started going off.
The best test I've had was this past weekend when going on a drive with about 10 other cars. I was on the phone with someone in a C2 next to me when my 9500 started to sound...about 3 seconds later his V1 started sounding...he immediately asked me what the hell kind of detector did I have as he's been a V1 guy for years and he couldn't believe that mine picked up the signal first.
The only possible thing that would make me buy a V1 over the 9500ci would be is if I really cared to know the direction of the signal. But, for all the other features of the 9500, I'll stick with what I have. With the strength meter on the 9500, it doesn't take but a few seconds to realize if the signal is getting stronger or weaker, so direction isn't really that important to me.
I've also done an update to the system already via my laptop and it worked perfectly...merged all my previously marked locations and added the new ones. Hands down the best system out there right now...IMHO. Of course, an installer who knows what they're doing is a must.

Who said it doesn't pick up signals from the rear? It most certainly does and I haven't noticed any difference in distance between the rear & the front signal detection. It just doesn't have the little arrows telling you that it's in front, rear or sides. It still picks them all up, though.
I drive a 24 mile twin span bridge twice a day with cops stationed at various crossovers between the 2 spans every 3.5 miles...so I know for sure where they are and also know how good the 9500 is at picking up rear signals
It's all a matter of opinion / preference, but I'll take the GPS / false alarm learning/marking features, laser shifting, easy & frequent updating and better range detection over the little arrows telling you where the signal's coming from all day long.

Coming from the V1 I was initially frustrated by not having arrows on my 9500 ci I was also confused by the lowering sound of the alarm....
But after using the 9500 for two months I do not miss the arrows or the high constant sound.
The whole idea of the radar detector is to slowdown when it goes off or to make sure you are within the speed limit. Who cares where the signal is coming from.
Todo

I also like the little voice that tells me what band is being detected as soon as the signal is picked up so I don't even have to look at the readout. Although it is conveniently between my speedometer and tach, I still don't have to look at it to know what's going on.
