Squealing turbo drive belt

Earlier with every rain, the '07turbo belt (20K miles) would squeal and then stop with driving. Then the irritable sound wouldn't stop. Dealer said probably a pulley. I tried belt lub...finally with an entire can, the belt stopped its nasty squealling.

Am I the only one having this problem? Never see any complaints on the forum. Maybe I have a bad belt. First engine I ever came across which allowed rain water to pour into the engine compartment. Can't believe this is good for belts, etc. Now when my >$130 turbo sits in the rain at work, I have got to remember to cover the opening with a rubber door mat or else after a couple downpours, back comes the wretched squeal. Just seems strange to me such a problem exists, but I guess every car, regardless of cost or reputation has to exhibit some negative feature(s).

I avoid driving mine if it is raining period. When i used to wash it without placing something to cover the area over the engine with the belts and air filter area it used to make a similar sound but not anymore.

Happens with rain and after a wash too, unless you do what KA 997TT says and cover the area with a towel - just dont forget to remove it before firing her up (ask me how I know).

Same problem here....dealer adjusted belts and even replaced the alternator. Problem still exists but to a lesser degree now. Damn rain.....I just rev it up to 7500 rpm for about 10 minutes to dry the belts before I drive away.

Mine has always done it in heavy rain. It's not a belt issue, rather a decklid one. Case in point, another speeder with an aerokit does not leak at all.
I've narrowed it down to the right side, closer to the window. Very annoying, 996tt's don't do it, only 07-08 997's. There was a thread on rennlist and rennteam in the past.

Just kidding KA......

It is embarrassing when it happens.....sometimes I just sit there and wait for people to clear out before I start the car for fear of the squeeeellllllling that may be about to happen.

2009 Turbos do it too. It's nothing to worry about. I just touch the pedal to bring the idle up a little, and the noise goes away. After about 15 seconds of this, it's gone for good.

Just to add a data point here -- hope it helps: I have 2008 Turbo. I drive the car to work daily, even in pouring rain. Of course I wash the thing a lot , and do spray the lid above the engine compartment when I wash it -- although always front to back and never "into" those openings. I do not cover the lid with anything when I wash.
My car has never squealed.

PS Is my car the ONLY one that doesn't squeal? Anyone here whose car does NOT squeal after rain? Maybe something is wrong with my car?

A lot depends on mileage. My belt was silent for 20K. I guess the belt just gets rinsed completely with time. I live in Florida, so there are some real downpours. I still cover the opening when I wash the beast, but after a rain, I still use some belt lub or the nasty squeal wil return. Porsche has said they will replace the belt, that it shouldn't do that, but the dealer is miles away, and so as long as the belt lub works...saves me the aggravation. I think these drive belts are recommended by Porsche to be replaced every 50K miles or so, not sure.

I still am amazed that a +$130K vehicle (1st porsche)allows rain water to pour over the engine belt, pulleys and whatever when the car is sitting outside....that has to be unique in a passenger car. With the engine running and the car moving, guess the problem is greatly reduced.
