Simple 996 clutch mod possible for 997TT?
Simple 996 clutch mod possible for 997TT?
I found this simple DIY mod for the clutch adjustment "spring" on Rennlist & was wondering if it's even possible for the 997 Turbo? The 996'ers seem to be quite happy they did this simple (no cost) mod & it's completely DIY reversible.http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...tically-2.html
I have the heavy pressure plate & clutch for a stage 3 system. The mods are all fairly new, & with the hydraulic clutch assist, the clutch pedal lacks sensitivity. Having driven manuals my whole life & still occasionally stalling, it's the only thing on my car that I despise! The car also has the EVO cylinders kit & still isn't much better. Even stock these Porsche hydraulic clutch mechanisims suck. My VW TDI clutch is the complete opposite. I feel even more "connected" to that car!
Your answer is here. I have the same issue. It's just not a 'cheap' fix

Cheap clutch mod
I'm not sure that doing the GT2/GT3 clutch slave is the answer like you claim. Actually, as I mentioned I already have the "Upgraded" clutch kit on a car with > 750HP, which requires a heavy pressure plate. Even with the "kit" it still has limited sensitivity.
The 997 does have that "spring" system like the 996 to assist the driver in depressing the pedal. Please see photos attached. The green spring is within a small cylinder & appears when the clutch pedal is depressed.
I just wanted to know whether anyone on this forum has removed the spring assist device like many have done on the 996 from Rennlist.

Ah, my mistake. I didn't see that you already had that conversion. Hmmm. Very disconcerting.
I pumped the clutch with the car off until the hydaulic assist was gone. Wow. Pretty heavy. I assume that's what it would be like with the GT2 conversion.

All the 996er's that have done the mod claim it's a big improvement, but b/c I've put in the heavier pressure plate, I'm a bit reluctant to take the "assist spring" off. I don't have Lance Armstrong legs to push like I'm going up Mount Ventoux in the tour!
It's hard to get at the thing! Eventhough the sensitivity is lacking, the clutch pedal is a quite easy to push over & over again in heavy traffic jams. Maybe I'll take it off sometime this weekend & report back.

I took mine off (996 turbo) with a stage 4 clutch for some better feel. Its easy and there is a good thread in the 996Turbo section of this website.
Notes:
Careful, it is under quite a bit of pressure and kinda "explodes" off of the mount.
While it may be reversible, with the pressure the spring produces; this is something I would actually pay someone else to do.
Helps the feel at the engagement point by quite a bit imo.
