$730 Oil Change????

I just called my dealer to schedule an annual service. The service advisor said the service consists of an oil change, wiper replacement, and to "check" everything. Is $730 accurate . This is year 2 for my car but I don't remember paying near that much for the first annual service.

What prices do you guys pay?

Well,
I would actually do a lot more than an oil change for an annual service especially if you drive your car like it is meant to be driven.
I would ask them all they would be checking and why the labor is so high, most I paid on an oil change on mine was 210.00 all included with parts.

my dealer here charges $400 for an oil change. Sometimes, they go on sale for $299 or something like that. $730 seems to be too high.

Do it yourself...

The TT is an incredibly easy car to do an oil change on...two easily accessible drain plugs and a filter canister that could not be any easier to replace. I do anything possible to avoid the dealer. The quotes you're getting are ridiculous.

Hence the term, "stealership".

I had my oil changed on my TT at about 1,000 miles (for posterity). They charged me about $250 for it. I can't imagine it's an extra $500 for wipers and someone to vaccuum your car which is basically what the first service is about.

My annual scheduled maintence on my C63 AMG is $350 including oil. I know it's a much different car, but just a point of reference if it helps.

Not sure I believe that. My '07turbo is one of the toughest to change oil. I have been thru several M3s which aren't easy either. First to jack up the car, block the wheels, then you have to be really careful on the reserve tank not to tear off the plug and then you need a special wrench ($40) to take of the filter which is sometimes messy. Screw up that reserve oil pan plug and you have real high cost problems. The oil change is at 20K miles, and if you buy your oil/filter, the labor charge is only $90. $90 may be a lot for an hour of service, but your time is worth something too. Also you have to find a place to accept the used oil which is messy. I think too, it is a good idea to let the porsche tech check out things like computer read outs every 20K or so (another $100). Watch the prices from the write-up folks. One wanted $179 change-oil labor while the second one only $90

I changed my oil first at 10K, but I let Porsche do the last one. Not worth the hassle for $90

You have to watch the dealers on windshield wipers, inside/outside air filters. Best to buy these and change these thing yourself, that is where some large labor savings are with minimum effort. Another big cost is changing brake fluid once every 2-years....they get $250 for that, but no way to save on that. I'm not so sure brake fluid change is really needed every 2-years unless you really abuse the turbo's brakes.

Difference of opinion...and experience

I guess it comes down to one's individual level of comfort, experience, tools, equipment, and a desire to be more involved with their car while saving more than a few dollars in the process. I think 20K oil change intervals is nonsense - good luck with that. I've changed the oil on all my cars from Fords to Ferraris and found my 07 and now 08 TT to be very straightforward and accessible. You obviously found it as troublesome and annoying as I would doing interior wallpaper...different strokes for different folks....was just offering my thoughts while this guy (and others) were struggling to understand ridiculous dealer charges.

Wow... sounds like a real scam. Someone at the dealership is raking in the money if people actually take that "deal."

Changing oil is a really, really simple task if you have a lift... it's literally 5 minutes of work (and a little bit more in waiting for the oil to seep out). I doubt the Porsche drain plug, gaskets and filter are more than $100, which leave them with a huge profit. More than is reasonable.

Thanks for the input. I called around and found another annual service price of $589.00 with a September discount of $389.00. I have not decided to do it yet because I am so pissed that the dealer tried to rake me for $730. I do however feel its important to document and have the dealer stamp for resale purposes in the manual. I emailed them the qoute from a local dealer and they matched the price. They acted like they were doing me a favor because I bought the car there. Yeah right, bunch of BS. They also said they check everything, change wiper blades, the carbon filter? and clean out the intake grates, are you kidding me......
