LOL! yeah - for sure and thanks. I had Sotto-Zero's on her at the time and away from spikes nothing would have saved her that morning (yes totaled+no other cars involved). For me now its a mental thing. As much as I enjoyed her in the snow during the last few New York winters - a 2011 Jeep is going to be my winter work horse!

But to be fair - these cars with proper snow shoes are really rock solid in 1-4 inches of snow. I think many have said and its true - too much snow and you just bottom out. I would not hesitate to pick up 911 tt for daily usage.

I agree with your thoughts on going up the hill to ski. I drive my 911 in almost all conditions, but we take my wife's Audi SUV when we ski. It's fitted with Nokians in the winter and it's about as good as it gets in those kind of conditions. I ski at A-Basin on a regular basis, and I don't think my 911 could make it across that parking lot in the summer time, much less in the winter.

I like hearing this. I have a Cayenne for skiing and so should you.

I have thought about driving my 911 during the winter in Denver but, it I don't have the tires and its lowered. I think this is the most important things to consider.

I think Bob's explanation, should explain all of what we are looking for. His theory is correct.

Height is what make the car move when you have a few feet of snow. If you get one that has a "adjustable ride height" you can lower it with durametric.

I would take ski's strapped to my Cayenne any day over my 911. Not to mention the comfort.

Like I mentioned originally, I much prefer the S4s I've had over the Cayennes I've had. Even in the snow. Cayennes have very wide tires and are heavy. Too bad things in the snow. Not to say they handle badly, but add in the height, and it's not my favorite.

Thus I've decided on a Panamera Turbo as my next daily driver.

That being said, I personally think a snowboard on the top of a 911 Turbo would be awesome =) But my board stays in the mountains so no need to bring it back and forth.

Damn, Panorama, board in the mountains, you big pimpin. Just joking.

My wife loved the Panamera the first itme she saw it. Now I kind of like it. Great choice! It really is a more practical solution for winter, sports car, and comfort.

LoL, riiigghhhttt. I didn't say brand new optioned to the teeth. More like 2010 I've driven a few non-turbos as loaner cars while mine were in for service. Definitely drive one! It behaves like a 911 even though it looks huge from the outside. Doesn't feel like it from the driver's seat.

For all those that drive in snow...you guys don't worry about all the salt on the road?

Care to elaborate? I've driven P and P4 as loaner cars and I wouldn't describe either as "behaving" like a 911 (i.e., you can't shake the weight in the rear and it takes a while to get going)! However once you get a P or P4 to 80+mph it really turns into arguably the best highway cruiser around, this side of an S-class!

Fortunately for me, they don't use salt on the roads in Colorado. They do use gravel. That's why I have the entire front end of my car covered in clear bra - full hood, full front fenders, bumper cover, mirrors and rear wheel "shark fins".

I couldn't get by on all-seasons, even on packed snow. The inclines in the mountains really make true winter tires necessary.

I believe both models you referenced have ~300 hp. They are the same ones I've driven at altitude. I also test drove a C4S and then a GTS on the track, so a bit more power. My statement comes from the ease of handling.... Especially when I throw it in Sport mode. One of my favorite things about a Porsche is I can throw it into a turn, wonder for a half second if it is going to stick, then it hits that point where it does and it will be solid through that turn until I'm out. I feel like a lot of other production (stock) cars will try to fight me more and push more. Even the Macan S didn't push much when I drove it spiritiedly through the mountains compared to my S4.

The other thing that continually surprised me about the Panameras is that while it took a ton of effort and disabling many electronic systems to get anything close to getting the backend loose as you mentioned , even though it is a much longer, wider, and heavier car it feels much smaller and lighter from the driver's seat. I imagine a turbo model that has comparable HP would have no issues getting off the line faster than the NAs. I was also impressed at the seeming quickness of the lower HP models because of the impressive shifting pdk did.

I bought mine to drive year round in MN.

I had no idea how low the factory ride height was until driving one.

I don't plan to take mine out if the roads aren't mostly plowed. Cheers to working at home.
