997 Turbo vs. Airplane
997 Turbo vs. Airplane
So, I'm debating whether to sell my Beechcraft Bonanza and buy a Porsche to replace it.
. Wife says keep the airplane, thinks I'll miss it too much. Besides, she says, we can cruise all day long at 200 mph and not have to worry about getting a ticket! Over the last year though, I've only flown about 40 hours. I can easily afford a nice GT2, GT3, Turbo 911, etc. for what the airplane costs me. Any of you guys had experience with this type of dilema?

150mph in a 997tt is exciting. 200mph in a plane is really boring. Just got to ride in a L39 fighter jet and 600 mph at 6000 feet felt slow. There is no sensation of speed at altitude. I think the choice is obvious my friend. PORSCHE IT IS!!!!
Bonanza... (Que theme song) There is nothing like popping out of a cloud layer on a ILS appch above minimums to find a lit runway. Or a fantastic sunset at 15,000 on O2 of course OR a star filled night with a girl after you've dimmed down the lights for a 1/2 hour.

Little off topic, but if you keep the plane, you should reach out to 997TT owner and 6speeder, GEE-BEE.
The guy is an Encyclopedia when it comes to anything Beechcraft. My Father is a '66 V-tail Bonanza owner and he helped me find something I was looking for.
My vote? Get the car...

Ahh, the V tail Bonanza aka the doctor killer lol.
That's a tough question. It all depends on how much you enjoy flying really. Your Beech doesn't really depreciate sans engine time whereas the car will especially if you're looking at a newer 997tt.

Thanks for all the replies gentleman.
GotBoost, your right, speed is all relative. On my mountain bike going through the trees at 25 feels like 100mph. 200 at 10,000 is boring. I also have a Piper Super Cub and 80mph at 10 feet feels pretty fast too!
I have joined the Porsche Club of America, and the local chapter in Portland. Any other words of wisdom to how to find the right Porsche? I'd love to drive them all and see which one would be my favorite, but that's not really practical. 2-wheel drive turbo GT2, normally aspirated GT3, or all wheel drive new Turbo 911. It's a tough decision.
SVTHHornsnak, I've told the wife many times "You can sleep in the airplane, but you can't fly the house!" Maybe it's time to make it come true for real
.
HardCore Nice, your right. Some of my most memorable experiences have been in the airplane. Flew it to the Bahamas a few years ago, and Alaska this summer. There's nothing like it. However, lately I find myself flying the Super Cub alot more. It gets me into my favorite fishing spots on the Deschutes river.

Turbo - Great straight line speed. Stock suspenstion is too soft and needs work. Probably the best everyday supercar out there.
GT2 - Awesome car, but 2wd and a rear engine turbo motor? Too much for me and most drivers to handle
GT3 - Pure dirivng experience. Very visceral and raw. Real track toy that may be too harsh for just street use.
I will tell you this much. My next Porsche will most likely be a GT3 RS.

...
I used to fly (did not own) and perhaps like you, only had about 40 hours per year that I could log because of other responsibilities (work, kids, etc.). So I choose Porsche for now, and plane when the kids are grown.
