yes, please keep this alive. I just ordered these and would really like to know about any possible batch defect issue before I install.

Update

OK, here's what I personally think: I believe I simply had a one-in-a-million defective shock from Bilstein. I base this upon the fact that I had the local Porsche tech install them at the dealership (he installs these all the time and he's known in the local community to be the top Porsche mechanic in my area); the shaft within the shock simply snapped in half?? (forgive me if I don't use the correct terminology...I'm not a mechanic); a couple of people suggested to me that the tech overtightened something to cause the shock to break? I cannot accept this because he's not a big guy and only hand-tightened the shocks! I mean, if the shock could break from him hand tightening them, who would really want to buy such a product??? When I told him this, he just rolled his eyes, shook his head, and adamently said "No." I haven't had the car driven 50 miles (the mileage is on record at the dealership), the miles have been around town (taking wife to dinner, etc.) and that's it! I am very anxious to see what the retailer says who sold them to me (they're VERY reputable by the way...big 6speed member and extremely knowlegeable about Porsche). I will be asking for a new, passenger side shock, and I think they should pay for the alignment (I think it cost me $600 to install and get the alignment, so the alignment itself should cost maybe $150)? The Porsche Tech has predicted the Bilstein will not admit to the shock being faulty (says the aftermarket rarely does this). Would be anxious to hear everyone's thoughts and if you think I'm being reasonable, unreasonable, etc. Thanks for the responses in advance!

Wow...all I can say is thank goodness you weren't at speed when this happened.

All of Bilstein's dampers have a lifetime warranty. Hopefully, you'll be back on the road soon. Good luck!

Here's the link. I'd give them a call if your supplier has trouble. Bilstein has been very good to me in terms of warranty and service in the past.

For sure you can and should get a replacement from your supplier! No matter how rare the incident is it's not your fault either

We are a WD for Bilstein and the company that sold drkbrent those coilovers. He and I are already speaking.

He just needs to send the shock to me so I can then send it to Bilstein for evaluation to determine if it was a manufacturer defect or install error. Bilstein makes the call.

We will keep everyone posted to see what they say.

Thanks!

Mike, thanks for chiming in. The tech will come to my house tomorrow (I think), pull the shock, and I'll send to you. I'm very anxious to hear what Bilstein has to say. If we can't pull it tomorrow, we'll get it to you shortly after Christmas. Thanks for your professionalism as always!

Derek
