Motorsports Plenum and Throttle Body Upgrade
Motorsports Plenum and Throttle Body Upgrade
My Porsche dealer has suggested that I can get another 60hp from installing the Porsche Motorsport's plenum and larger throttle body.
The are familiar with my car ('07 997tt) and know that I have a Ruf 550 upgrade and Europipe L2 exhaust.
At $2200 quoted for parts and whatever the cost of labor, this seems like a pretty inexpensive upgrade for 60hp.
Anyone gone this route? Any comments on this upgrade?
Thanks.

It just sounded so good and it didn't effect the warranty, which for me is one reason to not go with the turbo upgrades...yet.
I would be shocked if it gave you 60 crank hp. That would be more than a 10% increase for your car. I did the IPD pleunum with TB myself and got 4-5% average increase across the entire power band. If you look at the power delivery closely you could see that most of the increase came at higher rpms. More details in this thread:

Iam not saying the mod is not worthwhile. It actually is a very good mod. I just dont think its right to lead you to expect a massive gain. It will be a definite but incremental gain that you may need a device like a performance box to see the improvement.

I just bought a VBox Performance Box and should have it before the work is done so I will be able to do some comparisons that way as well.

Once we installed an 82mm throttle body, we were able to leap past the 700 crank hp level on pump gas. To mate this large of a throttle body, we had to create an adapter (commonly referred to as a "plenum" for some reason) and thoroughly rework the software with GIAC.
We then went back and revisited our stock turbo power kits and found that significant power could be unlocked when safely maxxing out the stock turbos with the addition of this throttle body assembly. Special software was required here, too, in order to keep the engine from stalling and to fix off idle throttle response.

Here is the power that our throttle body assembly adds to stock turbos:
i think 9ff uses the large TB in their packages above 650hp.
We just installed the IPD plenum and enlarged GT3 throttle body on a recent EVT-750 build. On the EVO packages, those parts are the difference between the 700 and 750hp kits.
We built two almost identical cars, both tiptronic cabriolets. One was a complete EVT700 and the other was an EVT750 (plenum and throttle body being the only difference in components). The 750 was noticeably faster.

You will not see the hp your dealership is claiming with those components. Talk to the folks who did your conversion. Ask them what a recommended upgrade will be as the next step. I am fairly certain I know what they are going to say, and it won't be a plenum/TB.
