New 911 Turbo S or Ferrari 458 Italia?
I guess I am one of the few who thinks the 458 is ugly in picks. I need to see it in person to decide. Sometimes pics don't do a car justice.
Also based on the latest performance of the std Turbo PDK, the TurboS is bound to demolish the 458 in straight line acceleration. On the track it may be a different story and probably will be with 200 lbs less of the ferrari.
If you are looking for a weekend toy and some exclusivity, the 458 might be best. If you want blistering acceleration and the ability to demolish anything short of a Veyron, the new TurboS might be the best bet.

A Ferrari is a piece of art. It is beautiful in every aspect. When you buy a Ferrari, you are buying a lot more than just a car. Practicality should not be one of your criteria when even considering a Ferriari. Sure you can find more reliable and faster cars, but it still is not a Ferrari. If I ever have enough money to own one, I wouldn't drive it hard like I do my tt in fear of what might break and how much damage it would do to my wallet. Even I dont' drive it much, I would sure love to have a 430 Scud as a garage queen!

I still ask the question that there are 6 2010 Ferrrai California cars on auto trader with less than 500 miles for sale. How much fun do you think those owners had ?

I am really surprised that you are so naive and go by what the sales people tell you. Modern day Ferraris (360 onwards) are just as reliable as any Porsche. Do some research on Fchat and other forums and talk to local Ferrari owners you will know the real scoop about the maintenance etc. Just dont go to the dealer , find a good indy shop you will surprised.
I am not going on what "sales people" are saying . I talk to those who work on the cars. I talk to the owners who sit in service --not the owners who are still in the automotive honeymoon phase enough to post on F chat or any other car forum sharing their happiness.
As for the sales people who know me for years -- they simply look down at the ground when I ever mentioned Ferrrai and get quiet . It's their job to sell me the car .. but they respect and care about me enough as a person to know in advance that i would not be happy.

Why not call it what it really is -- a very pretty money pit .

Well -- I do have enough money to buy one . Instead I bought two Porsches .
In fact -- if I had to have a choice of either the Ferrrai or no car at all --I would keep the 300K and take a taxi . I would rather have no car .. than a headache .

It's not that i dislike Ferrari by feeling that it is an overpriced , unreliable, waste of money . I understand that Porsche and many manyfacturers have mechanical hurdles too but the big difference between Ferrari and Porsche is the manner at which problems are handled and resolved . As for the "other cars" they are not part of the comparison .

I'm on Fchat everyday (and actually know people who own the cars) and do not see owners having difficulty getting their cars serviced.
Ferrari California?! LOL. Come on Larry. Also, did you read your link about the recalls? Are you saying there were 1950 different recalls? it's 1950 cars POTENTIALLY Affected, for that one recall. Lots of TSB's (like any car) but i'm not sure i remember reading about more than a couple of recalls.

No one has trouble getiing the car serviced . What they do have problems with is the ease of maintaining a car that doesn't have some issue at any given time or some obstable when a part is not available.
If this was cheap car .. it would still be unacceptable but the fact that this happens to be an expensive car makes it even worse bcause the bar of expectations ought to be set so high .. and it isn't.
so does anyone know of more than a few 458s with a few thousand miles on them yet? I'm wondering how the DI service issues will be considering after 10k miles on my old RS4 you won't have as much power...
btw, I'd take a 458 for sure even though a Turbo S beats my current car...

I understand that there are those who are convinced that the 458 is amazing . I suppose it's pointless to reason with it because in the end it is just a car (somewhat) . I know that I will never buy one even if money fell out of the sky. I would not keep one even if it was free.
That is sincerely what I think of the car at any price. I have no confidence in the car at all. It's not that I "dislike" it --my feelings are more that of indifference because i know it will never be a part of my life.
For those who buy it --I wish the best --maybe you might table the topic a year from now when you have the car and the novelty eroded . Whether the cost to own is an issue or not -I don't see how it can't be part of the equation --- if the car simply isn't a happy ownership experience .
Either way -- Good luck Mhh .

No need to wait for your 458
Not sure if you guys have seen this yet, but you can get your 458 sooner than later - just double the sticker (and a euro spec car). Anyone know how the euro spec and US spec differs?

whatever you get DRIVE IT. that is what they were meant for and sometimes they have more problems when they are not driven. If you want ART, get a painting of a 458 and stick it on your wall
