Talk to me about headers.

With so many aftermarket headers avavilable im undecided on which ones to go for on my 997TT.

I like the look of the FVD items but is there that much difference to any other ones? They look to be slightly different in the build compared to most of the other ones available which all seem to look the same, I mean what one company might charge you $1600 for, You can pick an identical set on ebay for a couple of hundred bucks, is the extra $1200 really worth it?

Also on the FVD website they state that big is not always best, I personally thought the bigger the better as they can flow more?

So talk to me guys, Which header would you recomend?

Thanks

What mods do you have, if you plan to go past stage2 then headers come into play.
From what I read the difference between brands on increase in HP/TQ is <5%.

Car is currently standard, was going to do exhaust and remap at the same time, I have a fabspeed exhaust comeing next week and was going to get proto to do the map.

To be hinest this is probably just to tide me over untill I go for one of Todds monster kits however depending on what route I go down with him I may end up keeping them.

i have Tubi race inconel headers and luv them. a little pricey but worth it the resulting exhaust note was hellish. it won't disappoint

The best reason for going with headers is the weight saving. Is it worth $1000-$2000 to save 20-30lbs.

I have to add that they do look nice when the car is on the lift.

With headers you are looking to get about 5-8 hp max, torque will be increased by around 10 - 15 lbs. Sound will become approximately 20-25% deeper. The turbo noise will increase and the biggest advantage is going to be the improved spool up. There will be less lag.

I thought the lag will increase, i would buy them next day if i had any evidece that they increase power, i have 700sh kit without the headers and i do beter times than a lot other 700sh kits do plus my car is convertible/heavier

I guarantee you it reduces lag. I say this from what others have faced and from my personal experience. You are correct about power though. On a stock 997tt adding headers will hardly yield any gains in hp. With a tune you will see around what I quoted and if you have bigger turbos then it will be much more beneficial. Really depends on which stage your car is at. The extra turbo spool and reduction in lag alone to me was worth the headers.

Lag will be dependent on the design of the header versus the type of turbo it is matched with. It is dependent on two things, the tube distance and the tube diameter. In addition, a poorly matched setup may make power at specific parts of the RPM curve, but take away peak power, or vise versa.

Correct, and that is why evom offers different header diameters for different hp output to maximize gains.

I agree. In addition, power may compromised by picking and mismatching components from various vendors. An effective alternative would be to port the internals of the stock headers.
