Modded 09 TT or 11 TTS?
Modded 09 TT or 11 TTS?
I have a buddy that needs some opinions and help. He has a modded 09 turbo (GT1 block) with the Vorsteiner kit and a Switzer exhaust and tune. He was rear ended slightly, and now has the opportunity to trade in the car for a decent deal and get a new Turbo S. Any suggestions? I will try and get him to let me post some pics.
If the damage is minor, repair it and drive it until the new 99? arrives. The financial beating he will take going from the modded '09 to the '11 (and then probably doing some mods on it) will be tremendous. Then in a few years when the 99? does arrive, he will take another huge financial beating. Just my opinion of course. Then again, if finances are no object, go for it.
Finances are a consideration, and a financial beating is a consideration. The offer for trade and insurance money are almost making it close to want the Turbo S. Consider I said want here. He is like I am. More is always More better. Thanks for the opinion. We are looking for many to make a good decision with input from some guys on the forum that will have viable opinions like yours. Thanks.
11TTS-will be more exclusive in stock form and since the current TT puts down 2.9s to 60,ph, I suspect it will be plenty fast for him.
Just for giggles, has your buddy's modded TT been run for times? If so, how fast.
I guess you can always figure out some formula like $/second and see how things stack up.
This is just my thought and I have no problems spending other people's money.

I don't see how a damaged modded 997tt can be decent in any capacity for a trade in . Beside being only one year old , the mods will not retain much, and the rear damage attatches a story to the car .
But .. to answer your question --the 997tt S has no damage and that in itself is the reason to get it. In terms of how it will drive and depreciate when a full resdesign is nearby make no sense UNLESS the 09 car were damaged.

The dealership would want the car returned to it's original design on the exterior. Motor and exhaust are pluses for them in a sale. In this case, money is lost now or later. Owning the Turbo S is a privelage in itself. If I'm not mistaken, the 10 TT is one of only 3 cars listed as producing 0-60 times under 3 seconds. Stock produced in the world. That is a major value. The Turbo S will rewrite those figures.

So it boils down to how good is the price deal ? I am guessing 80K plus his car to buy the new car . If he's already in his current car for 140+ K plus mods he loses on both ends with a short production run.
The emotional component in his decision allows him to look forward to an exciting new car Vs keeping this one which has this damage memory .. but the price gap is going to answer that question for him.
It sounds like it already has --good luck with the new car .
Hey Neil, How goes it? We don't know yet his exhaust damage. We will soon know, but don't think there is any at present. Mainly it is just the exterior modification kit. I'm guessing you know the car since we have talked. Nice machine.
Yes sir. PM me what you would like. Everything is going to be considered.
The 997.2TT is a much different car as far as the way the motor and tranny are in synch with eachother. It's blazing quick in stock form and I am sure that if he truly wanted to, he could get a simple exhaust and flash and pump out another 60 or so awhp, making it a 10 second car.
It's a different driving experience. I'm not sure if a stick 997.1 vs stick 997.2 is worth it though, as I think the main difference in the speed of the new Porsche's is thanks to the PDK tranny mated with the twin turbo motor.
Because it is a damaged vehicle, if he can get an *excellent* deal and get some money off sticker for the TTS, then what the hell, you only live once. Just don't expect him to be go trade it in 2 years and not get hit badly. That's the way it is with these cars. He's gotta buy it and enjoy it.
Goodluck
