PCM in leather

Anyone else on the board with this option? I was wondering if you have any special tips for conditioning the leather.

Ask Mike@AwdMotorsports what his shop uses. It's real good.

I have it & love it. Also interested in what, if anything, should be used on it as it seems like it is really stretched tight.

You really don't want to condition this leather - only the seats. Tightly pulled leather is different on the dash and door areas than it is on the seats that get 'touched' all the time.

I'd leave it alone or you may end up with some issues.

That is beautiful . Is that OEM ? I have always been shy about taking apart the dash and I've been told that its not a big deal . If you are intalling it are you going to leave the aluminum trim ?

Thanks Eric - Confirms what I thought. The PCM leather is so tight, I was afraid to treat it with anything. The only thing I treat, and very sparingly at that, are the seats.

Thanks for the info. I plan on getting a full detail soon, and I have a feeling the detailer wouldn't know how to deal with this either.

solarlottry is infamous around these parts
Porsche does sell both leather cleaner and conditioner. The bottle does not mention anything about not using it on the dash etc or only using it on the seats. I condition my leather after cleaning it with the Porsche products and it looks quite nice after the treatment. I do notice that it will look "streaky" if not done uniformly though.

I'd be very careful about conditioning with ANY product, regardless of label.

There was a good bit of info in an earlier owner's manual, and a long story in Christophorous about the differences in the leather for the dash and hard parts vs seats.

They (Porsche Germany) do not recommend conditioning those parts like dash and doors - as this can make the leather softer (it is dried and prepared differently so that it remains tight on the dash even in the hot sun), and will likely create looseness, bubbles and seam issues.

Certainly hasn't been my experience. I've conditioned all the leather in all my cars without issue. Anyone I have ever spoken with in the high end upholstery or restoration business has advised UV protection and conditioning ESPECIALLY on the dash or under the windscreen. It's my understanding that unprotected and or untreated leather over time loses its elasticity and will ultimately shrink.

Nice pics here. I always wondered what the option "PCM leather" referred to. I assumed it was the sides, but since mine are leather (like everyone's) I didn't think that could be right. Never thought that it referred to the front faceplate of the PCM unit. Nice.

Hey Getz, did you get a car? Last thread of yours I read you were still looking.

Yuppers,
Have had it for a bit more than a month. I posted a thread with some pics about a month ago. Aside from some occasional squeaky pccbs, I am enraptured.

Does anyone with the leather over the PCM have experience with the dice ipod install? If they have to remove the head unit, I am worried this may jack up the fitment of the leather piece.
