Review of Cargraphic Loud exhaust & an audiophile's guide :-) to exhaust auditioning.
Can,
Is this video a good representation of a Cargraphic exhaust note. On a side note, it almost sounds like a lion growling in a cage before being let out. Deep rumble. Cargraphic exhaust 997 Turbo - YouTube

Second, remember this beautiful sound is OUTSIDE sound, people rave about these clippings but they are good for parking lot demos only, whereas INSIDE sound is what you will be hearing 99% of the times. INSIDE sound never sounds as good as outside (because the insulation cuts off low and high frequency and the staccato sound) and here you want to concentrate on loudness. You want enough loudness to satisfy you at WOT, yet quiet at cruising.
Regarding resonance, let me reiterate this: for manual cars where rpm could be controlled to above 3000 and with a reputable exhaust that has been installed properly and is working fine, it's a *complete* non issue. For automatic cars, then I hesitate to discuss much because I don't own one, but from reading between the lines, I would say that if it's a weekend car, you should be fine with most systems. If it's a daily driver where you cruise long distance, then you have to be careful if the rpm at cruise speed is in the 2200-2800 range.
There are many good systems out there and because they are different and sound and perceived loudness are subjective in nature, none is the "best" as per the recent fanaticism we are witnessing. While I love my Cargraphic, it is not the second coming, nor the Holy grail, nor does it give me orgasm (close, but no cigar
), and I most definitely don't recommend it for everyone. As an audiophile who spends hours analyzing sound in minute details, I cringed upon seeing some of these remarks lately (yours sound like tractor, mine is angel playing harp, yours has resonance, mine sounds like "classic Porsche" (complete non-sense, no Turbo sounds like classic "Porsche" and what's so "amazing" about classic Porsche?), etc. The level of hype has reached feverish level (great for daily drive yet louder than ALMS GT3!) and is embarrassing for 6speed. Ignore the hype, take a listen then your choice will become clearer.

As a fellow Cargraphic exhaust owner (I have only owned GMG and stock prior), I have to agree with Can's description of the sound. It is very Jekyll and Hyde. It is quite deep and throaty down low, and switches to more of a scream at high rpm and load, more reminiscent of a supercar. I spent many hours listening on Youtube through my sound system, trying to get an idea. The only things you can't gage is loudness and interior effects. Can has also reasonably accurately listed exhausts in relation to the loudness, but there is potentially significantly large differences between them. i.e. GMG down to Cargraphic is dramatic, but Cargraphic is still quite loud. Be prepared to make mistakes if you can't hear them in person.
I'm noticing a slight whistle on some video's as they rev the engine while listening to FVD exhaust. Not hearing it with Cargraphic videos. Is that a common issue with X24 turbos?

Thanks Chris it's doing the job for now and getting me meatballed @ LS. Do tell PM me. I knew you were considering that one on rennlist.
Here is a clip of my tractor coming off the bus, excuse my over-excited camera man

When I initially listened to exhausts many years ago I did prefer one over other candidates, and thought most people would feel the same. But over time I've noticed that others (particularly Chris/TT Surgeon) who have listened to many systems have distinct preference for Tubi. And if you go to Tubi's web site http://tubistylena.com/ or look at their history (they are a major operation and the exhausts to best of my knowledge are made in Manarello, home to Ferrari); you'll see that these guys specialize in making exhaust for the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini. You *know* they know exhausts, and you know they know sound.
So the bottom line: particularly when it comes to reputable exhausts like EP, Cargraphic, Tubi, etc., there is no single best sound nor best exhaust. The major determinant is loudness; in the quiet ones like Tubi and EP1, you could talk and still have excellent sound, in the loud ones like Cargraphic and GMG, you have a more race-car like sound with throaty rumble, but it's not conducive to conversation w/ the wife, sometimes possibly a blessing in disguise but we could talk about that some other times :-). Strictly personal preference, no right or wrong and if you like yours now, don't change.
It's very similar to suspension tuning, where you could have ride or handling, but *never* both, and anyone who thinks otherwise is not to be believed (sounds like a harp at cruising, louder than ALMS GT3 at full throttle, etc.). For my Turbo, I believe in "maximizing sensory input"
with driving so the suspension is stiff, the sound is hefty and rumbling, but no way that this is the only way to skin the cat.

Can- I abosolutely agree with all above. I do believe Tubi is an excellent product, I have not had any complaints from passengers including the wife. However, since my car can sit for months at a time I want something unique, obnoxious, raspy, perhaps GT3-ish when I do get back in it. The same applies for the supension. I think I'm going to start experimenting with a few of the "louder" options out there.

I now have Cargaphic loud and am happy. I did love the look of the FVD, tho.
