Am I being unreasonable?
I'm not saying it couldn't happen to me because it could, but the chances are remote. Trust me, I'm not complacent in the least. I know I am my only chance of defense. 911 and cops are only good for taking a report because whatever malevolence showed up at your doorstep will be long over by the time police get there.
You parked at a McDonalds and are pissed that 1: people parked near your car and 2: a couple of teenages showed interest in you beautiful $130000+ exotic car. I'm sorry this all seams normal to me. Nothing in your story made me feel like you were going to be followed home. I could park my car in the furthest corner in a parking lot all alone and everytime when I comeback cars are parked around it. Does it suck? Yes but I check for dings and I get over it. So I'm sorry a few of us gave you or opinions that you asked for Doc.
You are not alone in being cautious/concerned. I live in an established neighborhood with lots of good people always out and about and generally low crime. Recently there has been a rise in crime (attempted home robberies) and just last week someone stole the catalytic converter off my neighbors truck in his driveway while he slept. In this economy thieves are bold indeed and they are often fearless as they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Best to be aware of your surroundings and take all precautions within reason.

Wow! I was unaware of Mr.White's thread, and, handdoc, thanks for pointing it out.
I am always amazed by the human psyche!
We read the newspapers and watch TV and observe all those horror stories, thinkin' no, won't happen to me. We all know the stories, kidnapped children, rapes, armed robberies, hit-&-runs, etc... We convince ourselves that the victims were careless or that we live in great neighbourhoods...
Despite all the horror stories, our psyche lulls us into a false sense of security and as such, we live in a glass cocoon.
Then one fine day, heaven forbid, as in the case of Mr.White, something bad happens that shatters our world.
Then we realize that the glass cocoon is just that, glass. False. An illusion of safety and nothing else.
We need to realize that there is malevolence and evil around us. And this malevolence does not abide by normal sane logical rules. Anything can trigger it. It can be planned and pre-meditated, or pure random violence.
Does that mean that we lead our lives in constant fear? We become paranoid?
No!
But it does mean that we should face the realities of life and expend a reasonable effort to ensure, insofar as we can, our safety and the safety of our loved ones primarily, and the security of our valuables and belongings that we worked very hard to obtain.
Remember, too often has a thief's desire to steal one of our belongings resulted in our own injury or worse.
Deterrence measures, if reasonable, are wise.
Situational awareness and vigilance is a must.
All of a sudden, the GIAC kill mode seems very attractive to me.

you're a little defensive don't you think? The title of your thread is basically asking for opinions then you get upset if you get an opinion you don't like.

I think you have to be aware but people will always want to see a car that they have dreamed about. Now if someone is leaning on my car or God forbid sitting on a fender or something then it is time to do some business.
Otherwise I love to share my car with other enthusiasts who may never own one. Although with the prices of these cars I think every bag boy at the supermarket may own one!

"Am I being unreasonable?"
You asked- so yes.
Its not a big deal if some kids take photos of your car while its sitting at McD's, its an unusual and cool car, people will want to oogle it...
After my home was burglurazide I decided to get a concealed carry permit. Maybe you should look into that too.

Worst thing you can do is become complacent. I do enjoy it when others admire my car. But a line does need to be drawn at some point. I've become acutely aware of how dangerous our society has become, particularly in these economic times.
Very long story, but my home was invaded by two little *******s last year WHILE MY WIFE WAS AT HOME. Thank goodness she was not harmed. The little $hits almost got away with one of my cars and a bunch of my belongings. Sure they would have taken the P-car as well if they had found the keys and had enough time.
I carry a firearm with me at all times. You just can't be too careful nowadays.

personally, I think you're being a teeny bit paranoid.
I n my humble opinion i find it akin to celebs complaining about the paprazzi (especially when its a necessary evil and in many of their contracts)
or guys who buy lime green lambos complaining re: the attention they get.
Thankfully, here on the west coast, with so many porsches in our hosp parking lot, nobody even notices many cars. You pretty much have to be "asking" to get noticed to get any attention.
You bought a nice car. Enjoy it. You cant stop others from oogling. Be happy you own the object of others desire an d appreciation. Of course, there's a gray area re: somebody looking to steal your car. It sucks, but there's lost of criminals out there who take advantage of t the priveledged. Thats just how it is. Ask Alex Gong or Anna Loginova whether it was worth it.
Thats what car insurance is for.
I NEVER worry about my car. Seriously - if somebody steals it, fine - I've got great insurance and can replace FAR faster than I can undo the negative impact on my health caused by either
1) stress/worrying about a stupid material object
2) getting hurt trying to stop said grand theft porsche turbo.
So yeah, I think you're worrying too much.

Doc,
I had to read MrWhite's thread before responding but I do believe you are starting to see ghosts.
MrWhite said his car was in an underground garage which to me sounds more like a building (apartment) than a house. Certainly that would give someone easier access and put him less at risk.
IMO it also appears that somehow it became easy to obtain a coded key as otherwise it would be extremely difficult to steal. And it also looked like his car was specifically targeted probably because it was easy.
Having people take pictures of your car is human nature nowadays, with cell phone cameras and people texting stuff to their friends all the time. It's like, hey man look what I just saw.
This is not to say you shouldn't always be careful. I always check to see if anyone is close to me when I get in ANY car but I don't lose sleep over worrying whether someone is in my garage trying to steal my car. I wouldn't mind if they did come in the house where a pistol in every room is the order of business.
It's always better to be aware of your surroundings, but don't alter your life so much that it isn't enjoyable anymore.
