Am I being unreasonable?
Am I being unreasonable?
Well guys, give me your thoughts on this topic:
most of have seen this thread on the forum:
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...slist-etc.html
after reading this story it made me nervous, i mean can you imagine having your car stolen out of your locked garage while you and your family are still sleeping? it is by the grace of god that those wackos only wanted the car, and that our member and his family are safe
it is only a car, and safety is most important
ever since reading this story i have been more aware of people seeing me in my car, or walking to it
my friend and i each have black 997 TTs, and we were walking to our cars the other day when we saw 2 guys taking pictures of the cars, and when we walked near they got in their truck and drove off
today i grabbed a snack at mcdonalds, parked where there were no cars...came out ten to fifteen minutes later to find cars parked around my car, and several teenagers/young men "filming" it and taking pictures
i was a bit annoyed, long day in the OR
as i walked towards them i said "are you gonna send me copies of what you are doing?'
they asked if it was my car and i said yes...then i asked that they stop what they were doing, they didnt, so i said "if you want to see one buy a magazine"
i got in my car and left
the idea of someone following me to see where i live, or to try to scope out the car bothers me
when i was a kid, many moons ago, if i saw a nice car i would admire it, never touch it, and respect the person who worked so hard to buy it
i dont see that now, and the story of the car being stolen from a garage still bothers me
does anyone else feel this way? did the above story about our members turbo being stolen disturb others as it did me?
i keep to myself in general, and i love my car, something i worked long and hard to finally buy, and i am reminded of that everytime i drive it
i think we all just need to be a bit more aware...thx

It is disturbing.
I love my 997tt and worked very hard to finally own it too. I'm glad I have it and not a flashy Ferrari or Lambo. I get some thumbs up on the highways and the occasional drooling teenager looking at it but it's not an attention magnet like the ultra-exotics, and that's how I like it.
Your story is quite disturbing - the videotaping and gathering etc.... Crooks have gotten ever more sophisticated. Use as much healthy caution as you can.
I was debating getting alarm sensors for the garage etc... but so far haven't.
I'm careful where I park it and drive my other car if I'm going anywhere that might mean leaving the car in unfamiliar areas for many hours.

Worst thing you can do is become complacent. I do enjoy it when others admire my car. But a line does need to be drawn at some point. I've become acutely aware of how dangerous our society has become, particularly in these economic times.
Very long story, but my home was invaded by two little *******s last year WHILE MY WIFE WAS AT HOME. Thank goodness she was not harmed. The little $hits almost got away with one of my cars and a bunch of my belongings. Sure they would have taken the P-car as well if they had found the keys and had enough time.
I carry a firearm with me at all times. You just can't be too careful nowadays.

Under the radar, that's why I keep mine dirty most of the time.
About 6 months ago, I came out to my car to find a teen peering into the window, I turned around for a sec and he was gone. Then I noticed two cars with broken windows, I think I was ten seconds away from having my car robbed.

Yeh its one strange world these days and agree it pays to be alert. I remember the days when car jackings and home invasions made news....not any more. Sure... its not happening everywhere and every 5 seconds but these things do happen and its wise to try to always know whats happening around you when youre driving these cars. My solution is to always stay ahead, move through any traffic and then move a bit quicker and dont wallow around in the traffic. I figure if any one can keep up with me then maybe there is something more to it other than just wanting to have a perv. One may say thats being a bit paranoid but its also good fun plus safer staying ahead wherever you can
. I've also got a tracker in mine just in case i get unlucky and get forced to hand it over.

I find someone taking a snap with a cell phone camera every time I drive mine. Not too many cars like this in my neck of the woods. Mostly teenage boys, mostly wearing backwards hats. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Of course, I conceal carry also.

Situational awareness is critical no matter what you are driving. Take a firearm class and get a permit. The first level class is usually 90% situational awareness, with about 10% shooting. If you have a good instructor, you will learn what/where/who to avoid and how to deal with it even before you may need to resort to a firearm. Don't buy a gun and leave it in the vehicle. Learn to carry safely. It doesn't take more than a week or two to forget that you are even wearing it. Practice until your body instinctively knows what to do. Go to the range once a month or every other month at a minimum.
Your head is your best defense, followed by your handgun. Fortunately, I don't live in an area where I am overly concerned with home invasions.
I can't second guess whether you were unreasonable or not. You are the only one who can decide if you felt threatened. Maybe you were, maybe you weren't. It doesn't matter now that you had a safe ending, and that is what is important.

Like someone already said, always park in the open and alot of light and where people are around, that's all you can do.

And that's exactly what I thought until it happened.
Paranoia describes those who think there are others out to get them.
I KNOW I have people out to get me...
In all seriousness, it is a tough world out there...in my community alone, burglaries and auto theft has climbed dramatically, and criminals have become more bold.
Stay safe, guys...
