Mid Range Times Comparo

I thought it might be interesting to see how different mods perform in mid-range where most of us drive most of the time. Here are mine (I chose this range so you can see the lag).

Manual, 3rd gear (0 shifts):

30-100 6.70s
40-100 5.12s
50-100 4.10s
60-100 3.38s
70-100 2.62s
80-100 1.90s
90-100 1.02s

91 oct, Ecu/vgts/exhaust upgrade.

Awesome info. This is what I've been hoping to see, in addition to the 60-130mph and 100-200kph data that's out there. TTdude, I presume you started off at 30mph and then stomped on it. Did you do the same for 40, 50 and 60 or are they just taken off the graph? I dont know how much difference it would make but if you did each individual run then there may be the slight lag to take into account, but otherwise you're probably on-boost if you are already accelerating and so it would appear quicker than if you were doing a rolling start from each speed.

I'd be interested in knowing how other modded cars do with this test, especially cars with mods and the standard turbos, just to see if the upgraded turbos are of value for moderate speeds (up to 100mph) as opposed to the higher speeds.

thanks again for posting this data.

Just for comparison, here's the data from a stock 997tt in the CandD review. The results show the 0-30, 0-40 etc. so I have just taken the numbers and subtracted them to show the interval times, which may not correspond to the way ttdude measured...

0-60 3.4s
0-100 7.9s
30-100 6.9s
40-100 6.4s
50-100 5.2s
60-100 4.5s

Hi Bogg, The numbers are all derived from one run. From the more complete graph below, it appears that I nailed it around 26-27 mph. It's not a precise way to measure boost response but somewhat indicative. By comparing the 10 mph delta one can see where the sweet spot lies for my set-up (at least for 3rd gear). Btw, I've done a 4th gear pull 60-130 on another thread but haven't broken it down like this. I'll do a 2nd gear one as well at some point. Anyhow, my data is posted if anyone wants to compare. Dave

10 mph delta

30-40 1.58s
40-50 1.02s
50-60 0.72s
60-70 0.76s
70-80 0.72s
80-90 0.88s
90-100 1.02s

Hmmmm...it just sunk in that all of this is in 3rd gear, which wouldn't be the case for the C&D numbers I posted. ie. your numbers are smokin fast !!!!

iirc, your 60-130 was 6.5s, so that was all in 4th gear?

Did you do all your mods at once, or in stages. I'm just wondering how much practical difference the upgraded vtgs make for under 130mph. I understand that the increased hp would be a benefit in acceleration at higher speeds but am wondering how much difference they make under 130mph.

Congrats again on an awesome car!

You will feel more power and signigicantly less lag with upgraded vgts. The car pulls harder throuhout the gears. There is a significant difference in feel not to mention quantified by dynos. It's definitely worth doing.

Loaded up the race file. Couldn't get a 60-130 but managed to squeeze in a 60-80. I'm probably running 1:9 (pump:race fuel). From this data, once I hit around 65 mph the difference starts to show. There was about a 20 deg difference (increase) in outside temp compare to the earlier pump tune.

60-80 mph (3rd gear)
Red: Pump tune (1.48s)
Blue: Race tune (1.33s)

lol...grandma shifts faster than me. Upgraded turbos make a big difference just in feel. Caught a little wheel spin with the race tune.

Thanks for posting. 50-70 is 2.0? Is that because you're below boost threshold?

Good eye...on that particular run, I was plotting boost v RPM in 3rd. I started in at a ridiculously low speed and mashed the pedal.

It was either that you opted for a very "safe" tune...
