Buyers Guide

Hey guys, I'm new here and I've been doing some DD for a while. I'm still not confident that I'm as educated as I should be before pulling the trigger. I have no previous Porsche ownership experience and I don't know anybody who owns one.

There's a manual 997.1 in the classifieds that looks like a possibility, but I can't yet decide if it's got all the right goodies. Does a 997 Buyers Guide exist somewhere on the interwebs? Or a comprehensive list of options from previous model years?

I don't read Rennlist as often as 6speed, but I Google'd myself to a 996 buyers guide: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...ing-guide.html

Thanks.

I don't think that was what he was asking??
Think he was referring to the 'must' have options. I could be mistaken....

I interpreted "buyers guide" as the order guide. Oh well, this won't be the first time I've been told "that's TMI."

imcarnuts, thanks for the order guides. Those will be great resources for me.

bonehead, "must haves" (or "must not haves") are a good way to put it, even though everybody's list will be different. Here's a good example: it seems like Tiptronic on 997.1s are a dealbreaker for most people, including me.

What is on your "must (not) have" list?

Probably the only "must not" have for me would be any kind of wood.

If you are going to track the car then add rear axle differential lock (220) to the must haves.

I'm surprised that Porsche didn't make the rear axle differential lock standard. And I'm more surprised that it's missing on a lot of manual 997s. I guess everybody just drives in a straight line all the time..

imcarnuts, are you talking about wood panels inside the car? I don't think I've seen that.

Pretty much anything that is available in carbon from Porsche is also available in wood. You can see it in the order guides. As far as diff. lock being standard, Porsche is great on options. Footwell lighting is 700.00+ dollars and free on a Chevy Cobalt.

here's a link to a similar thread I started a while ago and was helpful to me when I was researching a car:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ons-997tt.html

there is also a good link from within that thread by another forum member.
