Used 997.1 or New 997.2?

I'm sure this topic comes out often but I'm really confused. Porsche is offering 1.9% financing on a 2010 911TT. Spread out, and assuming about $150k for the car, that makes payments about $2k/month with some money down. A used and already modified 2007 911TT goes for about $105-110k. With financing in the low-4% range, this makes payments almost the same. I plan to keep the car I buy for about 5 years. What is the right thing to do?

I would have thought 2007 would be going for lower than $100k. My guess is around high 80s for low mileage.

That doesn't really make sense...

2% finance difference off a $100-150K base won't be enough to cover the depreciation your car will take when comparing new vs. used...you stated it was $150K for new, and 1/3 (33.3%) less for used...

I'm not in any way saying that I will have spent the same amount of money. $150k is $150k. $100k is $100k. Depreciation is depreciation. I'm just saying that the payments would be roughly the same (+/- a few hundred dollars) and I would have a stock car set up the way I want it.

I guess I really just want to hear from those who have had both or have driven both to see if a stock 997.2 is "better" than a modified 997.1??

I'm not considering buying a stock 2007. I'd only get one with some major mods already done to it...thus $100k.

That is a question YOU have to decide. I was in your same position and I could certainley afford it but could not justify it. A new car takes such a depreceation hit and the great deals on a preowned tt with or without a cpo is hard to pass up.

If you are also considering a modified car ( everbody always wants to mod them but nobody wants to buy a moded car ) then I think you will find a great car as well as a great deal.

I just bought a 2007 Red Turbo, 8K miles, for $84,000. Cpo'd, factory warranty for a year. I would rather modify the car myself, then buy someone else's modded and potentially tortured car.

This is always in the back of my mind. In fact, I have thoughts of what happens to the car the night before I go to pick it up. A last 'hurrah' kind of beating.

If you don't mind me asking, how much do you think I'd need to spend in aftermarket to get the 997 buttoned down for a tigher ride and about 600+awhp? About $20k?

You will be looking at the delta of about $850/mo between those two cars. Think of that 1.9% offer as a $12,000 discount off the selling price. You are talking a $140k purchase vs. $90k purchase.

Cars aren't great investments, but the massive depreciation with the .2 will make it a TERRIBLE investment. You are losing a ton more money for what is to all but a professional driver the same car.

The only reason I started considering the new 911 was b/c of the positive PDK reviews. I don't want a Tip, got one in the Cayenne. 6-spd all the way for me but the PDK would be give me a compromise position for convincing the wifey that we need two P-cars in the family.

As I probably already new deep down, the '07/'08 cars are the way to go for many reasons.
