That would depend on if you were simply removing the drive shaft or also the front diff and front axles.

In 996tt's, if you remove all the components, the total savings would be 71lbs.

If you had adaptive seats, your weight savings would be 45-50 lbs for both front seats (as the passenger seat is heavier by 3-5 lbs in all versions of Porsche's current 997, Cayman/Boxster seating.) Still...pretty good weight savings.

The stock OEM 997TT exhaust is 45 lbs. Unless you are running catless straight pipes, your weight savings may not be 40 lbs.

Great photo! Love the scale. Thanks for posting the all the weights. Useful information.

was playing with the porsche configurator for the GT2RS the other day and there is an option for light weight battery. i think it said it was 22lbs lighter. Surprisingly, there was also an option for lightweight headlights that claimed another 15 lbs.

Here we are contemplating on how to lose few pounds here and there to make our tt nimble and fast. But this post will be pointless if your significant other weighs like 250lbs +. When she gets on, all the weightless mods will go down the drain. Old friend of mine was once bragging about how he shaved 200lbs or so taking out back seats, lighter wheels, lithium batteries (he spent $2000)etc and he had a huge *** girlfriend. He was hauling her *** every single day. So I was thinking, what's the point of his mods when his hauling his whale girlfriend all day long

That's all. My reply was not meant to be personal, and I cetainly do not mean to suggest any disrespect to TTSurgeon. I just want to get this information without the thread getting clogged up with nonsequiturs. No need to neg rep me for wanting that, and further, the ability of anyone to do that sort of thing is one of the weak points of these forums that will lead to new members like me not wanting to stick around.

i agree, so here a +1 rep point for ya buddy

I got rid of my stock drilled 1pc rotors and replaced them with Brembo 2pc floating rotors. Replaced 3lbs per corner of rotational weight - http://www.vividracing.com/forums/pr...-vr-997tt.html.

I replaced the front and rear bumper and rear wing with the Vorsteiner VRT Carbon Fiber parts, so I am guessing I saved atleast 50lbs there. I also run the HRE C90 wheels in 19's which weight 19lbs front and 20.5lbs rear. So I think that saves almost 10lbs of rotational weight?

But with weight savings I have added things, Roll Bar, Water Injection Pump and Tank, Nitrous Tank, etc.

Sure, but he also made it so that hauling her around was not a real weight penalty since everything evens out! It's as if she wasn't there.

I'm a huge fan of threads like this by the way. For the person who says "the driver should lose some weight", you don't think about weight reduction the way that hardcore guys do...since our idea of weight reduction is generally 200+ pounds. I don't know too many people who could healthily lose 200+ pounds if you know what I mean.

Nice to see some folks excited about this on the 997.1 Turbos...as you know it's a longstanding and well detailed thread on the 996 Turbo side. I look forward to your updates.

I would think that a carbon roof conversion would be a good mod for the 997.1 Turbo guys as well since you might be able to remove 40+ pounds from the highest point of the car. I'm not sure if GMG makes the roof for this yet (they might) but Porsche Cup Car parts are available.

From GMG Racing:

Carbon Fenders; 5 lbs each, total 10 lbs
Carbon Hood ; 8 lbs.

Also you can save 22lbs from Porsche Lithium Ion Battery

These are all $2k+ each and probably not worth it, but worth to know

Here it says 3lbs savings per rotor on front and 5lbs savings per rotor on rear. So that means 16lbs of total rotational weight savings. Impressive
