Saving a couple hundred lbs. sounds more costly than gaining a couple hundred hp. Me, I'd rather have the hp...and Doritos.

Agree with Ruf Turbo that deleting 200 lbs from a 997 TT isn't as easy as adding 200 hp. Financially its simply much easier to create a 800 hp reliable TT then to drop the weight in an AWD 2+2 GT down to GT2RS levels. If you really want to drop the weight because you track your car often why not invest in a used Cup car ? If you absolutely require the finest lightweight steed money can buy and have the financial means, purchase a lightweight GT3RSR that weighs 2500-2600 lbs. or so. Our TT's can be made to handle pretty damn well with "slight" suspension mods and can be world class powerful with "slight" engine mods (there are countless tuners out there). This whole diet thing just doesn't work for me (yeah I like my NY pizza and bagels).

It'll be getting further and further away from a street car. I guess that's why Baskins make 31 flavors.

Even dropping 300# on a street car is meaningless on the track unless you have the proper suspension/tires/alignment, etc.
I disagree.

Dropping 300# is never meaningless. Acceleration, consumables (brakes, tires, gas) will all be far greater with 300 less pounds. Think about every time you stop in the braking zone from high speeds. 300 extra lbs is HUGE!!! Your tires won't overheat as easy with harder driving as street tires are prone to do. And that's the CHEAP consumables. Add in the stress on your gearbox and engine having to lug all that extra weight around. In the long run, the car will be better off without that 300#'s.

Not only that, the less grip you have, the less weight you want trying to break that grip loose. I bet you 10 of 10 drivers will be significantly faster on any kind of track with no other changes than a 300# loss (including alignment). Probably 1-2 seconds faster.

Not only that:

Trap speed will be faster
ET probably lower
60-130......... well.....

You could make a slight argument for 100#, but less so 200 and surely not 300.

Good to see this up and running, now get to taking some stuff out and sticking it on scales. Many of the things are pretty similar to the 996TT's in weight so you won't be too far off using them as a guide to guess where you should start. Then you can get actual weights once you do remove them. It's a community effort so keep the info coming.

Someone will need to compile the info though.

Difference in driving dynamics are very noticeable.. Thinking about the Porsche battery. Does it have any other compromises on daily usage apart form start <0 degrees? Will it still start the car if it has not been driven for couple of weeks?
