Project 250 MPH / Standing Mile
Depending on the event, the miami mile has been timed using tag heuer equipment run by a tag heuer technician.
Once someone serious starts putting on the events in miami, I expect it to take over because we have more than a mile left to slow down from speed since the runway has a pretty deep displaced threshold on both ends.....which adds to length but is not counted for aviation purposes.
The runway is pretty pristine and very clean meaning any video you make of your run won't sound like you're driving on a gravel road and.......no worries of ingesting pebbles.
The dade/collier field is also compensated for the curvature of the earth making any distanced measured off more accurate than most places because one of the original plans for it was to have it as a space shuttle alternate airport.
It's main mission was to be the worlds largest airport in anticipation of the united states flavor of the supersonic transport.....which never materialized.
If you've flown into that place as many times as I have, you would never say it was rinky dink.
Performance Power will not be done until they take the record to 300 and then cruise calle ocho that same evening with the a/c blowing cold.
We were first over 250 and that was recorded on tag heuer equipment so I still consider that the official record in light of the rinky dink setup many of us here witnessed first hand when trying to collect our timeslips at the exotics rally event.
There's still a lot of work to do and I don't know if we will have enough time....but we will try to make texas as we are registered.
You're welcome to come up and say "hi"....we won't shoot.

The Miami event was the biggest cluster **** i've ever seen. Aside from that, a bunch of guidos flying around the pit area in their nearly stock cars with exhausts. The enitre thing was laughable (if I hadn't paid $750)
Mike@awd speaks the truth - go for the record bring a GPS. I'm sure 300 is said with some degree of hyperbole - the technology just won't be there for a while (tires, aero, etc.) and there's too much ground to cover in too little time...unless you have the drivetrain and traction to have a killer 2-step launch on a 2500+hp narrowbody car. Nobody's getting close to 300 anytime soon at all. But i'm sure all the cars pushing 200+ are already incredibly fast in their own respect. We'd just like reasonable confidence to determine just how fast! 777vegas, that event sounds pitiful - i'm picturing the scene at nighttime guidos, blowouts, chrome hearts, white leather couches, tequila, smoked taillights, ricer flybys....vs. the Texas Mile superbowl of highway racing.
Anyway, best wishes for EVOMS for a fast and safe run! Whatever trap speed it hits, the car is incredibly badass.

LOL....don't get the underprepared organizers confused with the venue itself.
Which of the 3 different miami events is 777viper talking about since there have been at least 3 different hosts....mile marker-1, exotics rally, and topgunrun?
I thought the milemarker-1 event and topgun run were well run but "exotics" rally really dropped the ball allowing people to scream down the taxiway as well as park a plane only 240 feet from the fast end of the mile.
Milemarker-1's only complaint was the timing.
Topgunrun was certified tag/heuer timing.
We also went around and picked up all the garbage left by the other teams before we left.
Once a well funded and fully prepared organizer starts hosting events in miami, the basic physics of not having enough cooldown room at texas will be obvious.
I have nothing against texas.........it's just not long enough for the speeds that are being approached.
Yes, we are shooting for 300 eventually.
All it will take is some guy showing up with a funny car to put the "record" to 300mph and then the "oh it doesn't count because it's a race car" talk starts.
Then it will be necessary to categorize by class.

I can only
at the funny car.. The day a funny car runs down an unprepped air strip well see flying gallardos as well.. funny car cant run 1000ft without blowing up most times.. So it wont make it a mile you can be sure of it.. As far as classes go thats how TRUE Bonneville / ECTA aka Maxton Mile landspeed events are setup..
The beauty of the internet is if it runs 300 you can come back and say MIKE i told you so.. Until then with my personal experience in LSR racing 300 AINT Happening in an unprepped mile..
One last thing i will say as well and BY NO MEANS do i wish it on anyone.. Its going to take a TRAGEDY to enforce safety rules at TEXAS.. Cars running 250+ with no Cage, no Fire Suppression, No parachute will last only until someone dies.. 300mph in a regular street car using tires approved and tested for 100mph less is asking for trouble..
Im glad to see EVOMS add safety equipment to their car.. Something that is forgotten is Fire systems.. it takes a long time to slow down at 250 and if you are on fire it will feel like an eternity..

Two points to make some comments on from experience (OK I've only gone 202mph at best over a slightly longer distance, but I've done over 200 runs at around those speeds).
1. GPS
I've seen errors on timing systems, so I always like to check with GPS as well. However if you use a hand-held GPS, they are often also capable of errors and only sample at 1Hz. To be sure run 2-3 of these in the car and compare, or run a proper system like VBox thats samples at5-10Hz and has proper external GPS antenna.
2. Safety
We run similar events in the UK. We run on a 2 mile runway, using about 1.5 miles for acceleration and 5-800m for braking. At the end of the braking zone there is a 30 foot high earth bank. It was always bothered me, even though I ran my Ruf GT2 with the euro-cage and extinguisher and harnesses as standard. As we went through the timing beams you hit the brakes really really hard.
Recently there was a big crash, the 9FF car ran 222mph and then had brake issues, the results were below.

I was at two Milemarker-1 events and 1 Top Gun event. The 1st MM-1 was a utter complete joke but kind of expected and the timing(radar gun) was a total fail. The 2nd MM-1 event was much better but still lacking and their Tag timing system was off....it's not the system but the people operating it.....I know it was their first time with the system so that's how it goes....The TG event was 1st class...very organized and the staff was very friendly and helpful and their Tag timing system was perfect. It was dead on with my GPS.......The airport runway where it is held is an excellent place for this type of event....The runway is very smooth and clean.....Just waiting for the next event....got to faster this time....but will be armed with a VBox.
We've got chute, full halon system, and AIM evo4 with smarty cam, and working on a cage but the ford GT's tub material requires a bit more engineering lest you experience a survivable wreck but end up having the cage beat you to death.
I hope all who are racing did thier alignment settings with the car in the same exact stance that it runs when it's powering near it's top speed or they could end up with a dangerous wander from toe change at speed.

How did the mile go? Hope you guys hit your goal
Other than the UG lambo, I haven't seen much information at all.

Thank God the driver of the UR Gallardo, Richard, made it out ok but you are soooo right about the safety aspects
Anyhow, yeah how did the Porsches perform?
Thank you everyone for all of your support. Even though we did not reach our goal of 240+, we know that this goal is 100% attainable with our current setup. The best speed we posted was 224.8 MPH with other runs in the low 220's. This car / engine will go 240 + at the next event.
The problems we faced were all due to the OEM PTM (Traction management) system preventing us to make a clean WOT run. The car performed flawlessly at 25 PSI of boost where it went the fastest speed. As soon as we turned up the boost / power, the wheel slippage caused throttle cut as soon as we shifted into 5th gear. The throttle from 5th gear on was reduced to 60%. We tried everything we could throughout the weekend to correct this in the software as well as different driving styles, tire sizes, etc but we could not get a clean WOT pass with all of the power on board.
<O
This is not something that we simulated on our dyno prior to this event because we did not know about this problem. Now that we know how and when the problem occurs, we can test this on the dyno to see how to correct it. This is one of the main reasons that we use the Texas Mile as a place to test our cars. Real world testing at its best enables us to find the problems and correct them. <O

More photos and videos will be posted shortly. We have some great in car and out of car footage which we will post as well. Thanks for your support once again and we will not disappoint come March!!!!<O
